Doug Heywood
Douglas "Doug" Samuel Heywood (10 December 1924 – 26 July 2002) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1940s and early 1950s before becoming a noted sports commentator. As a schoolboy at Scotch College, Heywood excelled in multiple sports including tennis, in which he won the Victorian Schoolboys Doubles title in 1942, and football, where he captained the team into an undefeated year in 1942. Heywood made his VFL debut in the 1943 season and after sporadic appearances that year was a regular selection in 1944, playing 16 of a possible 18 games. He was used mostly as a half forward flanker. His football career was put on hold in 1945 with his service in the RAAF taking precedence. After being discharged from Darwin in 1946 he moved back to Melbourne where he undertook and completed a Commerce Degree. Seymour, Victoria
Seymour () is a historic railway township located in the Southern end of the Goulburn Valley in the Shire of Mitchell, Victoria, Australia and is located north of Melbourne. The 1948 VFL Grand Final and Grand Final Replay were a pair of Australian rules football games contested between the Melbourne Football Club and Essendon Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in October 1948. They were the 50th and 51st Grand Finals of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1948 VFL season. The Grand Final match, attended by 86,198 spectators on 2 October 1948, ended in a draw, the first time that a VFL Grand Final resulted in a draw. A replay was staged on 9 October 1948, attended by 52,226 spectators, in which Melbourne easily defeated Essendon by 39 points, marking that club's sixth VFL premiership. Sir Laurence Macdonald Muir, VRD, FSIA, FAIM (3 March 192521 April 2010) was an Australian businessman and philanthropist.. The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is a sports club based in Melbourne, Australia. It was founded in 1838 and is one of the oldest sports clubs in Australia. The MCC is responsible for management and development of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, a power given to it by the government-appointed MCG Trust and an Act of Parliament. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia.
