In Greek mythology, Dorus (, probably derived from ''dōron'' "gift") was the Eponym, eponymous founder of the Dorians. __NOTOC__ Mangup (, , ) also known as ''Mangup Kale'' (''kale'' means "fortress" in Turkish) is a historic fortress in Crimea, located on a plateau about 13 kilometres east of Sevastopol (ancient Chersonesus). Names It was known as Dory (), later Doros (), Doras () and finally Theodoro () by the Byzantines, before being given the Kipchak name Mangup. A 14th-century inscription found in the city called it the "God-guarded fortress of Theodoro" and its citizens Theodorites. Tom Manders (Dutch Artist)
Antoon (Tom) Manders was a Dutch artist, comedian and cabaret performer. In later role, he became better known as Dorus. Biography Although his birth was officially recorded as having occurred on 24 October, he was actually born on the 23rd. His father had him registered one day later because, for a child born on Sunday, he would not get a day off work. Already at a young age, his talent for drawing became apparent. He attended the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands for 3 years and was active, among other things, as an advertisement painter and designer of posters. Later he also designed decors for theatre and cabaret, regularly for Lou Bandy, Wim Kan and theatre Carré in Amsterdam. During World War II, Manders had to work in Germany but after half a year, he fled from his job as a painter. Dorus Nijland
Dorotheus Magdalenus "Dorus" Nijland (26 February 1880 – 13 December 1968) was a Dutch track and road racing cyclist. Nijland was a sprinter. He was an amateur cyclist and later Nijland became a professional cyclist (1913–1915) and continued cycling as a master. His total career was between 1905 and 1935. He won over a hundred prizes, and competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Career Nijland competed mainly on the defunct track "Zeeburgerbaan" in Amsterdam. He finished eleven times 2nd at the Dutch National Track Championships. In the early years of his career his finished behind Jan Tulleken from Haarlem. After Tulleken became a professional cyclist, he finished second behind Bosch van Drakestein. Dorus Rijkers
Theodorus "Dorus" Rijkers (27 January 1847 – 19 April 1928) was a famous Dutch lifeboat captain and folk hero, most famous for his sea rescues of 487 shipwrecked victims over a total of 38 rescue operations, and at least 25 before joining the lifeboat-service. 'Opa' Dorus Dorus received his nickname Grandpa () while still a young man: he had married Neeltje Huisman, a fisherman's widow who already had six children. Shortly after the marriage, the oldest of Neeltje's daughters had a child of her own, and so at only 23 years old Dorus became known as "Opa" in Den Helder where he lived. Dorus de Vries (born 29 December 1980) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. De Vries began his professional career in his native the Netherlands with Telstar, before spending three seasons with ADO Den Haag.
