Doof
A doof or bush doof is a type of outdoor dance party generally held in a remote country area, or outside a large city in surrounding bush or rainforest. Events referred to as ''doofs'' are now held worldwide and have built from a small set of social groups to a subculture with millions of active members worldwide, considered by some as a full blown culture similar to raves or teknivals. Doofs generally have healing workshops, speakers, art, live artists and DJs playing a range of electronic music, commonly goa, house, dub techno, Techno, acid heavy sounds and psychedelic trance. Nicholas Barber (born 31 August 1968), better known by the stage name Doof,Larkin (1999) ''The Virgin Encyclopedia of Dance Music'', Virgin Books, , p. 95-6 is best known as a British, London-based psychedelic trance musician. Doof's first official release was in 1993 with NovaMute, the dance label run by Mute Records, a three-track EP titled "Disposable Hymns to the Infinite". It was through Novamute label-mates Juno Reactor and Ben Watkins that Doof was first introduced to producer Youth (of Killing Joke/ Brilliant), Simon Posford, also known as Hallucinogen, and the Dragonfly Records label. Doof went on to release "Double Dragons" as a 12" with Dragonfly in 1994, and to produce a series of tracks in partnership with Simon Posford, including "Let's Turn On", "Born Again" and "Angelic Particles". Paul Haines (fiction Writer)
Paul Haines (8 June 1970 – 5 March 2012) was a New Zealand-born horror and speculative fiction writer. He lived in Melbourne with his wife and daughter. Raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Haines moved to Australia in the 1990s after completing a university degree in Otago, where he became an Information Technology consultant. He attended the inaugural Clarion South writers workshop in 2004 and was a member of the SuperNOVA writers group. Haines had more than thirty short stories published in Australia, North America, and Greece. In 2007, he volunteered as a mentor for the Australian Horror Writers Association. Doof Festival
Doof Festival () is the largest and oldest trance music festival in Israel. The festival was held for the first time in 2004 and since then it has been held every year on Passover at the ‘Golan’ coast in the eastern part of the Sea of Galilee (Kinnert). The festival hosts artists from Israel and around the world and lasts for three days. The Doof Festival aims to create a meeting place for culture and electronic music in Israel, a contemporary digital version of the Psychedelic movement in the 1960s while preserving the values of the international raves movement. Hannah Laing
Hannah Laing (born 1994) is a Scottish disc jockey and electronic music producer from Dundee specialising in high energy trance, techno, and hard house. In 2023, she was nominated for a ''DJ Mag'' Best of Britain award. Laing has been regularly featured on BBC Radio 1, including performing a two-hour Essential Mix. Career Laing was educated at the Harris Academy in Dundee. While growing up she became interested in rave music due to the influence of her parents, and worked as a DJ for the first time in an Arbroath venue when aged 18. While developing her musical career, including a DJ residency in San Antonio, she worked as a dental nurse for 10 years until quitting the profession following a well received performance at Creamfields in 2022.
