Donner Party
The Donner Party, sometimes called the Donner–Reed Party, was a group of American pioneers who migrated to California interim government, 1846-1850, California in a wagon train from the Midwest. Delayed by a multitude of mishaps, they spent the winter of 1846–1847 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada. Some of the migrants resorted to Human cannibalism, cannibalism to survive, mainly eating the bodies of those who had succumbed to starvation, sickness, or extreme cold, but in one case murdering and eating two Indigenous peoples of California, Native American guides. The Donner Party originated from Springfield, Illinois, and departed Independence, Missouri, on the Oregon Trail in the spring of 1846. Jörn Donner
Jörn Johan Donner (5 February 1933 – 30 January 2020) was a cinema of Finland, Finnish writer, film director, actor, film producer, producer, politician and founder of Finnish Film Archive. He produced Ingmar Bergman's film ''Fanny and Alexander'', which won four Academy Awards in 1984. Donner also served in the Finnish parliament and the European Parliament, making significant contributions to both cinema and politics. Kai Donner
Karl (Kai) Reinhold Donner (1 April 1888 – 12 February 1935) was a Finland, Finnish linguist, ethnography, ethnographer and politician. He carried out expeditions to the Ob-Ugrians, Ob-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples in Siberia 1911–1914 and was docent of Uralic languages at the University of Helsinki from 1924. He was, among other things, a pioneer of modern anthropological fieldwork methods, though his work is little known in the English-speaking world. Donner was the son of professor (later senator) Otto Donner, himself a noted philologist. Kai Donner studied Finno-Ugric languages, Finno-Ugrian philology at the University of Helsinki from 1906. Olly Donner
Olga Maria ('Olly') Donner ( Sinebrychoff; 28 September 1881 — 22 September 1956) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish writer and anthroposopher, known also by her pen name Jean Bray. Biography She was born to an upper-class family, as the only child of the industrialist and his wife Anna Nordenstam. She later married the industrialist . The couple were personal friends with Rudolf Steiner, the founder of the anthroposophy movement. Olly Donner was educated in different schools in Europe, and was fluent, besides her native Swedish, also in French, German, English and Russian. She wrote in Swedish and French, releasing 30 books, including novels, and collections of short stories and poetry. Love Records
Love Records was a record label from Finland established in 1966 by . It specialized in Finnish rock and also released jazz, leftist political songs, and ethnic music. Love released 384 LPs, 253 C- cassettes, 347 singles and 24 EPs. It was founded in October 1966 by journalist , jazz drummer Christian Schwindt and composer and all-round music personality Henrik Otto Donner. The first release was an LP consisting of the songs of Kaj Chydenius, sung by Kaisa Korhonen, Kalle Holmberg and Vesa-Matti Loiri. Henrik Otto Donner
Henrik Otto Donner (16 November 1939 – 26 June 2013) was a Finnish composer, musician and all-round music personality. His musical styles varied from pop and rock music to jazz, electronic music and contemporary classical music. Donner's personal instrument was trumpet. He was a member of the famous Finland Swedish Donner family. Donner was one of the pioneers of Finnish avant-garde and experimental music as well as an important figure in Finnish left-wing "song movement" of the 1960s and 1970s. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and later in Vienna as a student of György Ligeti. In 1966 Donner was one of the founders of record label Love Records which was a pioneering label in Finnish rock music. Patrick Donner
Sir Patrick William Donner (4 December 1904 – 19 August 1988) was a British member of parliament (MP) and a member of the influential Finland-Swedish Donner family. His family moved from Helsinki, Finland, to London in 1919. His mother was Scottish Violet McHutchen and his father was Ossian Donner, who headed Finland's first diplomatic mission in London 1919 to 1925. The family later settled in England for good, and his father became a British citizen. Donner studied English literature at Exeter College, Oxford and later entered business. He was elected at the 1931 election as Conservative MP for Islington West. The Swedish-speaking population of Finland (whose members are called by many names—see below; ; ) is a linguistic minority in Finland. Ossian Donner
Ossian Donner (24 March 1866 – 2 August 1957) was a Finnish industrialist, engineer and diplomat. Biography Donner founded the wool mill in Hyvinkää and served as CEO of the United Wool Factory until 1918. He built a house on Mauritzgatan 6 in Kruununhaka in Helsinki for his wife and two children in 1901. Since the early 1930s it is the seat of Svenska Klubben. During the civil war in Finland, his Scottish wife, Violet McHutchen, saw Russian officers being executed in a park the near their home. Shocking war experiences forced the family to move to London, where Ossian Donner became the Finland's Representative and later became Chargé d'affaires to the United Kingdom in 1919. Otto Donner
Otto Donner (15 December 1835, Kokkola – 17 September 1909, Helsinki) was a Finnish linguist and politician. Biography He was professor of Sanskrit and Comparative Indo-European linguistics at the University of Helsinki, but also studied the Finno-Ugric languages. He was a member of the Diet of Finland 1877–1905, and minister of education 1905–1908. He was also influential in the founding of the Finno-Ugrian Society in 1883. He was elected as a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1886. His mother tongue was Swedish, but he was a fennoman by conviction. He had many children: Ossian, Otto Jr., Uno, Kai, Harry and Eva Louise. He is buried in the Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki.
