Donna Texas Port Of Entry
The Donna Texas Port of Entry is a border crossing between Mexico and the US, located at the Alliance International Bridge. The bridge opened in 2010 to passenger vehicles only. While there are plans to open the bridge to commercial truck traffic, a date has not yet been set for that. Base Camp Donna Several hundred United States military troops established Base Camp Donna adjacent to the Port of Entry during Operation Secure Line in fall 2018. Detention facility U.S. Customs and Border Protection opened an emergency staging center, officially called the Donna Soft-Sided Processing Facility, at the port of entry in early May 2019. Constructed out of white, temporary tent structures, the camp was initially designed to house 500 migrants, but the capacity doubled by July. Donna is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. Donna is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission and Reynosa–McAllen metropolitan areas. The population was 16,797 at the 2020 census. History Donna is in southeastern Hidalgo County, east of McAllen, in territory that was granted to Lino Cabazos as part of the La Blanca land grant on May 19, 1834, by the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The Cabazos family inhabited the area for at least twenty years after taking possession of the land, and their descendants continued to live in the area into the twentieth century. The first known Anglo-American settler was John F. Webber, who, accompanied by his wife Sylvia (Hector), a former slave, settled in the area in 1839. The Webbers moved to the area in order to escape persecution for their interracial marriage. Donna–Río Bravo International Bridge
The Donna–Río Bravo International Bridge, also known as the Alliance International Bridge, is an international bridge that spans the Rio Grande, providing a crossing of the Mexico–United States border between Donna, Texas and Río Bravo, Tamaulipas. The bridge was opened to traffic on December 14, 2010. Only non-commercial vehicles are permitted to use the bridge, but there are plans to open it to commercial traffic. On the U.S. side, the bridge connects with Farm to Market Road 493.
