''Don't Play with Matches'' is the debut album of the American Alternative rock band Tabitha's Secret. The tracks were recorded in 1993–1995, although the album was released in 1997. It is thought that it was released to capitalise on the popularity of Rob Thomas's next band Matchbox 20's album ''Yourself Or Someone Like You''. Tabitha's Secret
Tabitha's Secret was an American rock band formed in March 1990 in Orlando, Florida. It was originally composed of lead vocalist Rob Thomas, John Leslie Goff and Jay Stanley on guitar, Brian Yale on bass (Colin Chrisman was the original bass player), and Chris Smith playing drums. In September 1990, Paul Doucette joined the band as a second percussionist, only to replace Chris Smith entirely a year later. Some of the band's most popular songs were "And Around", "Dear Joan", "Unkind", "Forever December", "Paint Me Blue", and " 3AM". The group is best known as a precursor to Matchbox Twenty, which was formed by Thomas, Yale, and Doucette after the breakup of Tabitha's Secret. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Jangle pop is a Music subgenre, subgenre of pop rock and college rock that emphasizes jangle, jangly guitars and 1960s-style pop music, pop melodies. Jays are a paraphyletic grouping of passerine birds within the family Corvidae. Matchbox Twenty (stylized as Matchbox 20) is an American rock band formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The group currently consists of Rob Thomas (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Brian Yale (bass guitar), Paul Doucette (drums, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Kyle Cook (lead guitar, vocals). ''Yourself or Someone Like You'' is the debut album by American rock band Matchbox 20. It was released on October 1, 1996, by Lava Records and Atlantic Records. The album has been certified 12× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Composition and release The album features a sound similar to traditional rock and post-grunge. The album features themes of adolescence, adultery, loneliness, domestic violence, psychological abuse, humiliation, depression, anger, and alcoholism. According to Rob Thomas, the album's title was originally to be ''Woodshed Diaries''. However, that changed when Thomas and Paul Doucette were at a woman's musical performance at Café Largo when the singer said "this song is for you, or someone like you". Brian Joseph Yale (born November 14, 1968) is an American musician who is the bass guitarist for the band Matchbox Twenty. He has been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Early life and education Yale grew up in Orange, Connecticut. He graduated from Amity Regional High School (in Woodbridge, CT) in 1987, where he participated in a school band. After high school, he attended Berklee School of Music for one year. He then transferred to University of Miami, graduating a Bachelor of Music in 1993. After college he attended and graduated from the audio engineering program at Full Sail University.
