"Dogs Are the Best People" is a single by Australian rock band the Fauves, the second from the album '' Future Spa''. It reached number 20 in the Triple J Hottest 100, 1996. Details Singer Cox later said in the period before recording, their record company was keen to find some potential singles, and, "they weren't keen on that one. I still have somewhere quite a harsh critique of the song from the record company. We'd already started playing it live, and for a band that was used to people staring at us nonplussed, suddenly there was this song that people had never heard and started bouncing around in the crowd. We had an inkling that maybe we had written a song that a few people might like, so we stuck to our guns." The Fauves are an Australian rock band formed in 1988. The band are known for their witty lyrics, melodic pop-rock and often satirical or evocative exploration of Australian themes. Their album '' Future Spa'' was nominated for Best Alternative Album in the 1997 ARIA awards but lost to Spiderbait's ''Ivy and the Big Apples''. They played at the Big Day Out in both 1993 and 1997. Future Spa is the third album by Australian rock band The Fauves. It was released in August 1996. The album contained two songs that appeared in Triple J Hottest 100, 1996, "Dogs Are the Best People" at No.20 and "Self Abuser" at No.30. It was nominated for Best Alternative Album in the 1997 ARIA awards but lost to Spiderbait's ''Ivy and the Big Apples''. In November 2008, ''The Age'' reported that the album had sold 15,000 copies, making it the best-selling Fauves album. Cox noted, "There are so many things you can write about, yet rock tends to limit itself to a very narrow band of what's acceptable. This is just our attempt to broaden that a little. Even if the lyrics aren't great, at least they're different. None of us are claiming to be poets." The 1996 Triple J Hottest 100, counted down in January 1997, was a countdown of the most popular songs of the year, according to listeners of the Australian radio station Triple J. A CD featuring 31 of the songs was released. A countdown of the videos of most of the songs was also shown on the ABC music series ''Rage''. Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
