Jammu And Kashmir Legislative Assembly
The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, also known as the Jammu and Kashmir Vidhan Sabha, is the legislature of Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Prior to 2019, the State of Jammu and Kashmir had a bicameral legislature with a legislative assembly (lower house) and a legislative council (upper house). The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, passed by the Parliament of India in August 2019, replaced this with a unicameral legislature while also re-organising the state into a union territory. The 12th assembly was dissolved by the Governor on 21 November 2018. The 13th assembly was elected in September and October 2024. Elections for the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir were held over June 1977, which are generally regarded as the first 'free and fair' elections in the state. Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, newly revived from the former Plebiscite Front, won an overwhelming majority and re-elected Sheikh Abdullah as the Chief Minister. Doda West Assembly Constituency
Doda West Assembly constituency is one of the 90 constituencies in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir a north state of India. Doda West is also part of Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency. This constituency was created in 2022 after delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir (union territory). In May 2022, the final list of new assembly constituencies was published in the gazette. The new constituency consists of Marmat, Assar, Kastigarh, and Bhagwah tehsils; Doda tehsil (part, excluding Doda), Arnora, Dhar, Doda MC, Udhyanpur (part), and Dhara PCs. Shakti Raj Parihar is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Parihar is a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from the Doda West Vidhan Sabha in Doda district and a former Minister of State (MoS) in the BJP-PDP Government. After passing higher secondary, Shakti Parihar worked in a French Multinational Company. Later he started his own business. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2008 and contested Assembly Election unsuccessfully from Inderwal Vidhan Sabha. 1996 Jammu And Kashmir Legislative Assembly Election
Elections for the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir were held over September–October 1996. Farooq Abdullah became Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir after the elections. The 1996 Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections in the state were possible due to efforts of counter-insurgents like Kuka Parray, (head of Ikhwan-ul-Muslemoon). Attaullah Sohrawardi
Attaullah Sohrawardi was an Indian politician and a prominent member of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC). He served as the member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Doda constituency in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from 1987 to 1996. Political career In the 1987 elections, Sohrawardi contested as a candidate of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference. He achieved a landslide victory, securing 92.46% of the total votes cast in the Doda constituency. He received 29,232 votes, while his nearest rival, Chuni Lal of the Lok Dal, managed only 1,395 votes. This significant margin reflected strong support for Sohrawardi and his party in the region.
