Doctor Ahrendt's Decision (film)
''Dr. Ahrendt's Decision'' () is an East German black-and-white film, directed by Frank Vogel. It was released in 1960. Plot Dr. Ahrendt has developed a new type of iron smelter. When his invention fails to produce the required results, he begins to doubt himself, and is even considered as a liar by some. However, the workers in the factory are determined to achieve the goals set forth, and together with the scientist they manage to prove that the machine can be used as planned. Hans Klering
Hans Karl Klering (8 November 1906 – 30 October 1988) was a German actor, director, voice actor, graphic designer and author. He joined the Communist Party and went into exile in the Soviet Union in 1931, returning to Germany in 1945. In 1946, he became a co-founder of DEFA, the East German state-owned film studio, as well as one of its directors and board members. Biographical details Hans Klering was married to Else Korén and Antonia Nizkowskaja. Born in Berlin, he apprenticed himself from 1921 to 1924. However, he became unemployed at the end. Later, he worked on the docks as a sign painter. In 1926, he joined the Communist Party of Germany. He was a member of several agitprop theater groups in Cologne and Berlin, including the ''Rote Raketen'' (Red Rocket), ''Blaue Blusen'' (Blue Blouse), and the Left Column. East German Films
This is a list, in year order, of the most notable films produced in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany and the socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) from 1945 until German Reunification in October 1990. The state owned East German film company DEFA produced about 800 feature films between 1946 and 1992. Besides DEFA, the state broadcaster DFF and the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst (now the Filmuniversität Babelsberg) were the only other organizations in the GDR that produced feature films for cinematic release, although far fewer than DEFA. DEFA also produced about 750 animated movies and more than 2500 documentaries and short films. DEFA feature films are accessible and licensable as part of DEFA's entire film heritage on the PROGRESS archive platform. Siegfried Weiß (actor)
Siegfried Weiss (18 April 1906 – 8 October 1989) was an East German actor. Biography Weiss made his artistic debut on the stage of the Halberstadt Theater, at 1924. He continued his career in the theaters of Lübeck, Königsberg, Magdeburg, Leipzig and Berlin, where he acted in the Berlin Ensemble, among others. Weiss' film career started already in the Nazi era, with the 1937 Sherlock Holmes inspired movie ''Die Graue Dame'' (The Gray Lady), and had lasted for almost fifty years. After the Second World War he returned to acting on screen, working with the East German studio DEFA and with the television producers DFF. He appeared in more than fifty independent GDR productions and in co-productions with other Eastern Bloc countries, such as the epic movies ''Ernst Thaelmann'', ''Karl Liebknecht'' and ''Liberation''. Gisela May
Gisela May (31 May 1924 – 2 December 2016) was a German actress and singer. Early life May was born in Wetzlar, Germany. Both her mother, Kate May, and her father, Ferdinand May, were writers. She studied at the drama school in Leipzig from 1942 to 1944. She was employed for nine years at various theatres, including the State Theatre of Schwerin and the State Theatre in Halle. Starting in 1951, she performed at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, where she played a variety of roles. Career In 1962, May moved to Bertolt Brecht's theatre group, the Berliner Ensemble, and stayed for 30 years.
