Dockyard and Engineering Works (DEW) Limited is a ship construction and repair yard at Narayanganj, Bangladesh, owned by the Government of Bangladesh under Ministry of Defence and managed by the Bangladesh Navy. The yard built many small to medium-sized patrol boats for the Bangladesh Coast Guard and landing craft for the Bangladesh Navy. History The shipyard was founded in 1926. Initially, it was a profit-making institution which continued after the independence of Bangladesh. But it experienced a period of loss starting from the 1990s. As a result, it was laid off in 2002. On 7 December 2006, the yard was handed over to the Bangladesh Navy. From then, it is regaining its standard. The Khulna Shipyard Limited () is a Bangladeshi state-owned defense contractor based in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is located on of land at Labanchara, Khulna, Bangladesh. The ''Pabna'' class is a class of riverine patrol craft in service in Bangladesh. The ships were the first ever warships to be built in Bangladesh. They are operated by the Bangladesh Coast Guard. History The ''Pabna''-class patrol craft were built at Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited at Narayanganj. These vessels were the first ships of the Bangladesh Navy. The Bangladesh Coast Guard (; BCG) is the maritime law enforcement force of Bangladesh. It is a paramilitary force which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its officers and sailors are transferred from the Bangladesh Navy, and most of the medical officers are transferred from the Bangladesh Army.
