Short Track Speed Skating
Short-track speed skating is a form of competitive ice speed skating. In competitions, multiple skaters (typically between four and six) skate on an oval ice track with a length of . The rink itself is long by wide, which is the same size as an Olympic-sized figure skating rink and an international-sized ice hockey rink. Related sports include long track speed skating and inline speed skating. History Short-track skating developed from speed skating events that were held with mass starts. This form of speed skating was mainly practised in the United States and Canada, as opposed to the international form, where athletes skated in pairs. At the 1932 Winter Olympics, speed skating events were conducted in the mass start form. Competitions in North America tended to be held indoors, for example in Madison Square Garden, New York, and therefore on shorter tracks than was usual for outdoor skating. 2013–14 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup
The 2013–14 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. The season began on 28 September 2013 and ended on 17 November 2013. The World Cup was organised by the ISU who also run world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating. The 3rd and 4th legs of the world cup, held in Turin and Kolomna, acted as qualifying events for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The World Cup consisted of just four competitions this year (rather than six) due to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Kolomna ( rus, Колóмна, p=kɐˈlomnə) is a historical city in Moscow Oblast, Russia, situated at the confluence of the Moskva and Oka Rivers, (by rail) southeast of Moscow. The 2014–15 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup was a multi-race tournament over a season for short track speed skating. The season began on 7 November 2014 and ended on 15 February 2015. The World Cup was organised by the ISU who also ran world cups and championships in speed skating and figure skating. In a break from normal tradition, the 4th leg of the world cup, held in Seoul, included a 3000m individual event for both the Men and Women.
