Dixie
Dixie, also known as Dixieland or Dixie's Land, is a nickname for all or part of the Southern United States. While there is no official definition of this region (and the included areas shift over the years), or the extent of the area it covers, most definitions include the U.S. states below the Mason–Dixon line that seceded and comprised the Confederate States of America, almost always including the Deep South. The term became popularized throughout the United States by songs that nostalgically referred to the American South. Red Clover Creek
Red Clover Creek is a west-northwestward-flowing stream originating on Horton Ridge east of the Sierra Nevada crest in Plumas County, California, United States. It courses through Dotta Canyon and Red Clover Valley to its confluence with Last Chance Creek in Genesee Valley, just above its confluence with Indian Creek, which flows into the East Branch North Fork Feather River. The Red Clover Valley sits at an elevation of about and is located on the east side of the Sierra Nevada crest, approximately north of Truckee and east of Quincy. Development and recreation Most of the Red Clover Creek Basin is uninhabited, although a few residences and vacation homes exist near the mouth in Genesee Valley. ''Pee-wee's Playhouse'' is an American television series starring Paul Reubens as the childlike Pee-wee Herman that ran from 1986 to 1990 on Saturday mornings on CBS, and airing in reruns until July 1991. The show was developed from Reubens's popular stage show and the TV special '' The Pee-wee Herman Show'', produced for HBO, which was similar in style but featured much more adult humor. In 2004 and 2007, ''Pee-wee's Playhouse'' was ranked No. 10 and No. 12 on '' TV Guide''s Top Cult Shows Ever, respectively. ''Dixie'' is a 1943 American biographical film of songwriter Daniel Decatur Emmett directed by A. Edward Sutherland and starring Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Filming in Technicolor, ''Dixie'' was only a moderate success and received mixed reviews. Contrary to rumor, it has not been withdrawn from circulation due to racial issues (Crosby appears in blackface during several musical numbers) but is simply one of hundreds of vintage Paramount Pictures from the 1930s and 1940s now owned by Universal and not actively marketed. The movie was broadcast several times in the late 1980s on American Movie Classics channel. The movie produced one of Crosby's most popular songs, "Sunday, Monday, or Always". "Dixie", also known as "Dixie's Land", "I Wish I Was in Dixie", and other titles, is a song about the Southern United States first made in 1859. It is one of the most distinctively Southern musical products of the 19th century. It was not a folk song at its creation, but it has since entered the American folk vernacular. The song likely cemented the word " Dixie" in the American vocabulary as a nickname for the Southern U.S. Most sources credit Ohio-born Daniel Decatur Emmett with the song's composition, although other people have claimed credit, even during Emmett's lifetime. Dixie is a neighbourhood in the city of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The community lies in the southeastern part of the city and is one of the older neighbourhoods in the city. The name of the neighbourhood dates back to the Village of Dixie at the corner of Cawthra Road and Dundas Street West in the south part of the city. In 1865, the village of Sydenham was renamed in honour of Beaumont Wilson Bowen Dixie (1819-1898), a Welsh settler who paid for the establishment of the Union Chapel, a multi-denominal Protestant church in the village originally built in 1816 (and rebuilt in 1837). Utah's Dixie is the nickname for the populated, lower-elevation area of south-central Washington County in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Utah. Its winter climate is very mild when compared to the rest of Utah, and typical of the Mojave Desert, in which it lies. Situated south of the Black Ridge and west of the Hurricane Cliffs, at the northeastern edge of the Mojave Desert, it was originally settled by Southern Paiutes. Following the Mexican–American War, it became part of the United States and was inhabited by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1854 as part of Brigham Young's efforts to establish an Indian mission in the region. The Dixie Valley is an endorheic basin which had plentiful ground water (free-flowing artesian wells) around which ranches were built. Prior to the US Navy TOPGUN school moving from California to Nevada, the valley was purchased in 1995 for $100 million and is used as an electronic warfare range for nearby Fallon Naval Air Station. The watershed has a floor of greater than elevation which has both the Lahontan Salt Shrub Basin and Lahontan Playa ecoregions of the Central Basin and Range.
