Diving (sport)
Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard, usually while performing acrobatics. Diving is an internationally recognized sport that is part of the Olympic Games. In addition, unstructured and non-competitive diving is a recreational pastime. Competitors possess many of the same characteristics as gymnasts and dancers, including strength, flexibility, kinaesthetic judgment and air awareness. Some professional divers were originally gymnasts or dancers as both the sports have similar characteristics to diving. Fernando Platas
Fernando Fabricio Platas Álvarez (born March 16, 1973, in Mexico City) is a Mexican diver. He began diving since he was a young boy. In 1990 he won in Germany two tests of 2 and 10 metres, and in that same year he won three gold medals in the Central American Games which took place in Mexico City. In 1992, he represented Mexico in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain and in 1993 he won a silver medal in the FINA Championships. Winner of the silver medal in the FINA Championships, for 1999 he won the gold medal in the 3 metre springboard. During the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia he won the silver medal in the 3 metre springboard. Anne Montminy
Anne Katherine Montminy (born January 28, 1975) is a Canadian former competitive diver and lawyer. Diving career Montminy had a number of highpoints in her diving career; she won a gold medal on the 10m platform at 1994 Commonwealth Games and the 1995 Pan American Games. She competed in the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics (in Barcelona and Atlanta), but did not advance to the finals. Four years later in 2000 at age 25, she won silver ( 10 m platform synchro) and bronze ( 10 m platform) in Sydney, Australia. Montminy was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2005. During her diving career, she trained at Pointe-Claire Diving Club in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. Fu Mingxia
Fu Mingxia (born August 16, 1978, in Wuhan, Hubei) is a retired Chinese diver, multiple Olympic gold medalist and world champion. She won the platform-diving world championship in 1991 at the age of 12, making her the youngest diving champ of all time. She is also famous for being one of the youngest Olympic diving champions, having earned a gold at the 1992 Barcelona Games when she was just 13 years and 345 days old. José Antonio Guerra Oliva (born August 9, 1979 in Santiago de Cuba) is a male diver from Cuba. He represented his native country at four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 2000 (Sydney, Australia). Guerra won a gold and three silver medals at Pan American Games during his career. He also won 2 gold medals at Central American Games becoming the only Cuban male diver in history achieving this.
