Discovery Channel (Polish TV Channel)
Discovery Channel Poland is a Polish television channel. It shows factual entertainment programming, just as its many siblings around the world. Discovery Channel has been available in Poland at least since 1998 when the Wizja TV platform launched. The dedicated Polish schedule was launched in 2002. The channel started using the new Discovery Channel logo on 1 July 2009. With a share of overall viewing of 0.67 percent, Discovery Channel, the eponymous American cable channel was the 17th most watched television channel in Poland in 2011, according to Nielsen Media Research, Nielsen statistics. It is by far the most popular of the dedicated documentary channels available in Poland. On 18 April 2012 Discovery Channel Poland started broadcasting in 16:9 picture format. In high-definition television (HDTV) and video display technology, 1080i is a video display format with 1080 lines of vertical resolution and Interlaced video, interlaced scanning method. This format was once a standard in HDTV. It was particularly used for broadcast television because it can deliver high-resolution images without needing excessive bandwidth. Wizja TV was the first Polish television and radio satellite digital platform, which started broadcasting on September 18, 1998. History Test broadcasts of the Wizja TV television programme from a studio in Maidstone, near London, began in September 1997, 2 months after registration of the trademark for ''Wizja'' in the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland. TLC is a Polish television channel which broadcasts lifestyle-centred television series. It targets mature women and broadcasts programmes related to lifestyle, health, food, and more. The namesake American version of the channel, was launched on 15 September 2009 by Discovery Networks Central Europe as the local version of Discovery Travel & Living. It replaced the Pan-European version of the channel, which had been available in Poland since 1999. Unlike the Pan-European version, the Polish channel offers advertising. DTX (previously known as Discovery Turbo Xtra) is a television channel focused on programming about cars available in Poland and owned by Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA. It is a version of Discovery Turbo. A pan-regional feed was also available in most of EMEA region from 2015 until it ceased broadcasting in January 2024. The channel was originally a joint-venture between Discovery Networks and TVN, but TVN left the venture in 2009.
