The disability rights movement is a global social movement that seeks to secure equal opportunities and equal rights for all disabled people. National Disability Employment Awareness Month
National Disability Employment Awareness Month was declared in 1988 by the United States Congress for the month of October to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. The month is an extension of "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week" originally observed during the first week of October beginning in 1945. In 1962 the word "physically" was removed from that week to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. Disability Pride Month
Disability Pride Month occurs worldwide, usually in July. Disability Pride has evolved from a day of celebration to a month-long event. It originated in the United States to commemorate the passing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July 1990. Disabled people make up 15% of the world's population representing all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. Disability Pride Month celebrates people with disabilities, their identities, their culture, and their contributions to society.
