Dipankar Banerjee is a retired major general of the Indian Army based in India. He is the founding director of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (based in Indian capital New Delhi). Military career Bannerjee is an alumnus of the prestigious RIMC (Rashtriya Indian Military College). Banerjee served in the Indian Army for 36 years from 1961 until his voluntary retirement in 1997. He was commissioned into the 2nd Battalion The 1st Gorkha Rifles and later commanded 5th Battalion The 1st Gorkha Rifles. Dipankar Banerjee (born 15 February 1952) is an Indian physical metallurgist, materials engineer and a former chief controller of R&D at the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Known for his studies on titanium alloys, Banerjee is an elected fellow of all the three major Indian science academies namely Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and National Academy of Sciences, India as well as the Indian National Academy of Engineering. Dipankar Bhattacharjee (born 1 February 1972) is a Badminton player from Assam, India. He represented India at many International tournaments including Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games, Olympics. He was the Indian National Badminton Championships, Indian National Badminton Champion thrice and a runner-up twice. At Barcelona Olympics, he reached the pre-quarters.
