Diocese Of Copenhagen
The Diocese of Copenhagen (Danish: ''Københavns Stift'') is a diocese within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Denmark. The Bishop of Copenhagen is currently Peter Skov-Jakobsen, who replaced Erik Normann Svendsen in 2009. The main cathedral of the diocese is the Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen. The Bishop of Copenhagen has a special status as primus inter pares among the Danish bishops, but does not bear the title "archbishop" because he does not hold Metropolitan status. The Bishop of Zealand formerly held this title, until the Diocese of Copenhagen was created in 1922. Though the bishop acts as the main authority among other bishops, the supreme authority of the church rests with The King of Denmark, while the administrative head is the Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs. Bispegården (English language, English: The Bishop's House) in Copenhagen, Denmark, is the residence and office of the Diocese of Copenhagen, Bishop of Copenhagen. Hans Fuglsang-Damgaard (29 July 1890 – 8 July 1979) was a bishop of the diocese of Copenhagen for 25 years including the years of the German occupation. Early life and education Hans Fuglsang-Damgaard was born on 29 July 1890 in Fuglsang, Oksenvad parish to proprietor Ole Christian Damgaard. From and baptized Hans Fuglsang Damgaard in Oksenvad church on the fourteenth Sunday after Trinity. At the time Oksenvad was part of Germany and Fuglsang-Damgaard was thus part of the Danish population in German Northern Schleswig. During World War I, Fuglsang-Damgaard was drafted into the German army and served on the Western front where he became a prisoner of war in France.
