Dillard is a town in Rabun County, Georgia, United States. census, the city population was 337. History John Dillard settled in the area around what is now Dillard with his son, James Dillard, ''circa'' 1823. James took title to of land by purchasing the lottery rights of land holders in Rabun County. John Dillard served as a lieutenant in the Virginia Militia in the American Revolution, during which he was in the Battle of Guilford Court House and other battles. Both James and John were residents of Buncombe County, North Carolina prior to their settlement on lands now comprising Dillard. The small town is now known primarily for the Dillard House, a regionally well-known inn, restaurant and conference center that serves traditional southern fare. John M. Dillard of Greenville, South Carolina, has extensively documented the history of John Dillard and his descendants. The Dillards
The Dillards are an American bluegrass music, bluegrass and country rock band from Salem, Missouri. They are notable for being among the first bluegrass groups to have electrified their instruments, and they are considered to be pioneers of country rock and progressive bluegrass. In 2022, the band was inducted into the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Biography The band was originally brothers Doug Dillard and Rodney Dillard, plus Mitchell F. Jayne, Mitch Jayne and Dean Webb (musician), Dean Webb. They had had some successful singles in Missouri and moved to Los Angeles in 1962. Within weeks of their arrival, they were signed by both Elektra Records and the William Morris Agency, who soon had them booked on ''The Andy Griffith Show'', playing a family of mountain musicians called "The Darlings". The Dillard House is a restaurant in Dillard, Georgia, known for its "family style" menu and Southern cooking. It traces its origins to the 1910s, when A. J. Dillard, a descendant of John Dillard, and his wife Carrie opened their stone house to boarders.
