Dignity Party (South Australia)
The Dignity Party, previously known as Dignity for Disability or Dignity 4 Disability (D4D; known as Dignity for Disabled until 2010), was a political party in the Australian state of South Australia. The party had one parliamentary member, Kelly Vincent, elected at the 2010 South Australian state election, 2010 state election to the eleventh and last seat for an eight-year term in the 22-member South Australian Legislative Council, Legislative Council in the Parliament of South Australia. She was not re-elected in the 2018 South Australian state election, 2018 state election. In 2016, the name of the political party was changed to the Dignity Party to better represent equality in all forms including race, gender, age and sexual orientation. Electoral District Of Bright
Bright is a former electorate for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was named in honour of Charles Bright, at various times South Australian Supreme Court Judge, Flinders University Chancellor, Health Commission chairman, and Electoral Boundaries Commission chairman. Prior to its 2018 abolition, the seat covered southern coastal suburbs of Adelaide including Brighton, North Brighton, South Brighton, Hallett Cove, Hove, Kingston Park, Marino, Seacliff, Seacliff Park and part of Somerton Park. 2014 South Australian State Election
The 2014 South Australian state election elected members to the 53rd Parliament of South Australia on 15 March 2014, to fill all 47 seats in the House of Assembly (lower house) and 11 of 22 seats in the Legislative Council (upper house). The 12-year-incumbent Australian Labor Party (SA) government, led by Premier Jay Weatherill, won its fourth consecutive four-year term in government, a record 16 years of Labor government, defeating the opposition Liberal Party of Australia (SA), led by Opposition Leader Steven Marshall. Paul Collier (activist)
Paul Henry Collier (4 February 1964 – 9 March 2010) was an Australian disability activist and the founder of the Dignity for Disability party. Collier was a quadriplegic, due to serious spinal injuries in a car accident on the way to his twenty-first birthday celebrations. He held a DPhil from the University of Oxford, and held advisory roles with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and for the federal Minister for Disability.
