1985 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The 8th Assam Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases in 1985 to elect members from 126 constituencies in Assam, India. The Nellie massacre and Khoirabari massacre were some cases of extreme violence. The unrest officially ended on 15 August 1985, following the Assam Accord, which was signed by leaders of AASU-AAGSP and the Government of India. During six years of the movement, a reported 855-860 deaths were reported. Digboi
Digboi (IPA: ˈdɪgˌbɔɪ) is a town and a town area committee in Tinsukia district in the north-eastern part of the state of Assam, India. Crude oil was discovered here in late 19th century and first oil well was dug in 1866. Digboi is known as the Oil City of Assam where the first oil well in Asia was drilled. The first refinery was started here as early as 1901. Digboi has the oldest oil well in operation in India. With a significant number of British professionals working for Assam Oil Company until the decade following independence of India, Digboi had a well-developed infrastructure and a number of bungalows unique to the town. The Assam Legislative Assembly Election of 2016 was held in two phases, on 4 and 11 April 2016, to elect members of the 126 constituencies in Assam, a state in North-eastern India. The overall voter turnout was 84.72%, which set a new record for Assam. The turnout was an increase from the 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly election, 2011 Assembly election figure of 75%. Elections to the Assam Legislative Assembly were held in 2001 to elect members of 114 constituencies in Assam, India. The Indian National Congress won the popular vote and a majority of seats and Tarun Gogoi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam.
