Diego De Medrano
Diego Fernández de Medrano (Hinojosa del Campo, 1545 – 1588) was a nobleman from the House of Medrano in the Kingdom of Castile, a knight of the Order of Santiago, and a prominent Spanish Navy, naval captain (naval), commander of the late 16th century. He played a significant role in several key military campaigns, including the battles of Cyprus, Battle of Lepanto, Lepanto, Navarino Island, Navarino, and Tunis, as well as other expeditions in Italy and Barbary Coast, Barbary. The Order of Santiago (; ) is a religious and military order founded in the 12th century. It owes its name to the patron saint of Spain, ''Santiago'' ( St. James the Greater). Its initial objective was to protect the pilgrims on the Way of St. James, to defend Christendom and to remove the Muslim Moors from the Iberian Peninsula with the Reconquista.
