Diamond Creek Trail
__NOTOC__ The Diamond Creek Trail is a shared-use path for cyclists and pedestrians, running along Diamond Creek through the north-eastern outer suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The trail follows the creek and the railway line to Eltham, where it connects to the Main Yarra Trail (also known as the Yarra River Trail). The path is generally flat with minor inclines and offers views of parklands, the creek valley, and semi-rural suburbia. It is fully paved with either concrete or asphalt and is relatively unaffected by tree roots. Designed more for leisurely travel than high-speed commuting, the trail is used by walkers, families, children, dog walkers (dogs must be leashed), and the elderly. Diamond Creek is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 23 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Diamond Creek recorded a population of 12,503 at the 2021 census. History There are two ideas about where Diamond Creek got its name. Victoria's Register of Geographic Names says that it was because of the way the stones glistened in the creek water. Local legend says it is because of a bull who was trying to cross a creek. The bull had a diamond shaped white patch on its head and found difficulty crossing the creek. The Diamond Valley Railway is a ridable miniature railway located at Eltham Lower Park, Eltham, Victoria (a suburb of Melbourne, Australia). The railway operates a variety of live steam, battery electric and petrol/diesel powered locomotives. Eltham railway station is a commuter railway station on the Hurstbridge line, which is part of the Melbourne railway network.
