Dhaka University Central Students' Union
Dhaka University Central Students' Union (), also known by its acronym DUCSU, is the official students' union of the University of Dhaka. Called the second Parliament of Bangladesh, parliament of Bangladesh, DUCSU represents Dhaka University students in the university's decision-making, acts as the voice for students in the national higher education policy debate, and provides direct services to the student body. DUCSU elections are not being held by the authorities for the past few years. History It was established in the academic year of 1923–24 as Dhaka University Student Union. Its first constitution was drafted in its general assembly on 30 October 1925. In 1953, its constitution was amended and the union was renamed Dhaka University Central Students' Union. Niaz Ahmed Khan (born 28 September 1964) is a Bangladeshi academic, researcher, and development practitioner who is the 30th vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka (DU). Prior to this, he served as the pro vice-chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh and was a professor at the University of Dhaka and the University of Chittagong. 1969 Mass Uprising In East Pakistan
The 1969 East Pakistan mass uprising () was a democratic political uprising in East Pakistan. It was led by the students backed by various political parties such as the Awami League, National Awami Party, and Communist party of East Pakistan and their student wings, and the cultural fronts (writers, poets, musicians, singers, actors, etc) against Muhammad Ayub Khan, the president of Pakistan in protest of the oppressive military rule, political repressions, ''Agartala Conspiracy Case'' and the incarceration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other Bengali nationalists''.'' The uprising consisted of mass demonstrations and sporadic conflicts between government armed forces and the demonstrators. Rashed Khan Menon (born 18 May 1943) is a Bangladeshi politician. He is the president of Workers Party of Bangladesh and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Barisal-2, Dhaka-8 and Bakerganj-9 constituencies. He was the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Education. Earlier, he served as the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism. Early life Menon was born in Faridpur. Khandakar Mohammad Obaidur Rahman (5 May 1940 – 21 March 2007) was a Bangladeshi politician. He was a member of the Jatiya Sangsad in 1973 representing Bangladesh Awami League and in 1979, 1996 and 2001 representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Ghulam Azam (7 November 192223 October 2014) was Bangladeshi politician and writer who served as Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He was vocal in gaining support for Operation Searchlight, a crackdown of Pakistan Army on Bengali nationalists, in the then East Pakistan. As a result of the crackdown, a civil war started in which Azam opposed separatism and due to his actions and involvement in alleged crimes during the war, after independence, the regime revoked Azam's citizenship in 1973. He came back in Bangladesh in 1979 with a Pakistani passport and stayed without any valid visa until he got his Bangladeshi citizenship again in the 1990s. Nurul Haque Nur (born October 1991), natively known as VP Nur, is a Bangladeshi activist, politician, and currently the 1st President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad political party. Bangladesh Chhatra League, simply Chhatra League (), is the student wing of the political party, Bangladesh Awami League, founded by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 4 January 1948. The organisation is banned and listed as a terrorist organisation in Bangladesh. BCL has been repeatedly accused of committing mass violence including torture, extortion, forced prostitution, killings to instill fear. At least 33 people were killed and 1,500 were seriously injured from attacks by BSL between 2009 and 2014. Dhaka University
The University of Dhaka (), also known as Dhaka University (DU), is a public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Established in 1921, it is the oldest active university in the country. The University of Dhaka was founded in 1921 under the Dacca University Act 1920 of the Indian Legislative Council. The establishment of the university in Dhaka was initiated with 600 acres of land requisitioned by the British government in 1905 after a new province of East Bengal and Assam was formed with Dhaka as its capital.
