Derek Haas (ice Hockey)
Derek Haas (born May 1, 1955) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey centre who played 30 games in the World Hockey Association with the Calgary Cowboys during the 1975–76 WHA season. Early life and education Haas was born in Trail, British Columbia. He played junior hockey with the Victoria Cougars during the 1973–1974 season. Career From 1982 to 1995, Haas played in the Ligue Magnus in France and became a French citizen as a result, playing for the country in the 1988 Winter Olympics. Centre (ice Hockey)
The centre (or center in the United States) in ice hockey is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is the middle of the ice, away from the sideboards. Centres have more flexibility in their positioning and therefore often end up covering more ice surface than any other player. Centres are ideally strong, fast skaters who are able to back-check quickly from deep in the opposing zone. Generally, centres are expected to be gifted passers more so than goal scorers, although there are exceptions - typically larger centres who position themselves directly in front of the net in order to score off rebounds. They are also expected to have exceptional "ice vision", intelligence, and creativity. Victoria Cougars (WHL) Players
The Victoria Cougars were a major league professional ice hockey team that played in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) from 1911 to 1924 under various names, and (after the PCHA's merger with the Western Canada Hockey League) in the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1924 to 1926. The team was based in Victoria, British Columbia and won the Stanley Cup in 1925, becoming the final non-NHL team to win the Cup. History The original Victoria franchise of the PCHA, the Victoria Senators, were formed in 1911, and became the Victoria Aristocrats in 1915. The Aristocrats challenged the Toronto Blueshirts for the Stanley Cup the following year, but lost. The Springfield Indians were a minor professional ice hockey franchise, originally based in West Springfield, Massachusetts and later Springfield, Massachusetts. The Indians were founding members of the American Hockey League. They were in existence for a total of 60 seasons from 1926 to 1994, with three interruptions. The franchise was founded in 1972 as the Miami Screaming Eagles, though it never played a game in Miami.
