Derby Bus Station
Derby Bus Station serves the city of Derby, England. The old bus station The original bus station was the first purpose-built bus station in the United Kingdom. Designed by Charles Herbert Aslin, the Borough Architect, it opened in 1933. It was the first of its kind in the world, with railway-style platforms. It had an art deco cafe and diner, in which The Beatles allegedly once dined. The station closed in October 2005 and was demolished in July 2006 following some degree of protest, most prominently from one individual who camped on the roof for several months in a final attempt to save the building. There were plans for a replica of some parts of the station to be built at Crich Tramway Museum, though this has not happened as of yet. Spondon Flyer was a bus service in Derby, England operated by Trentbarton. History Until 2017 the service operated as a direct service between Derby and Spondon with a frequency of every 10 minutes and buses travelled in both directions around Spondon. Trent Barton made changes with buses operating a single one-way loop around Spondon at a reduced frequency of every 15 minutes. Due to low passenger numbers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the service was temporarily suspended in January 2021 but was reinstated in March 2021, Due to driver shortages across the Trent Barton network it was suspended again in November 2021. In July 2022, Trent Barton announced that the service would be permanently withdrawn.
