The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives is the second highest-ranking member of the Federal House of Representatives of Nigeria after the speaker. The current deputy speaker is Ahmed Idris Wase who was elected on 11 June 2019. The deputy speaker presides over the House in the absence of the speaker. The deputy speaker is elected by a majority of the members of the House of Representatives. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Founded on 6 February 2013 from a merger of Nigeria's three largest opposition parties, the party came to power following the victory of party candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election. Emeka Ihedioha (born 24 March 1965) is a Nigerian politician and Businessman. Ihedioha is the governor with the shortest tenure in South Eastern Nigeria. He is the former Governor of Imo State and a former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.
