''Dennis the Menace and Gnasher'' (originally titled ''Dennis the Menace'' and currently titled ''Dennis and Gnasher'') is a long-running comic strip in the British children's comic book, comic ''The Beano'', published by DC Thomson, of Dundee. The comic stars a boy named Dennis the Menace and his dog, an "Abyssinian wire-haired tripe hound" named Gnasher. The strip first appeared in issue 452, dated 17 March 1951, and on sale from 12 March 1951. It is the longest-running strip in the comic. The idea and name of the character emerged when the comic's editor heard a British music hall song with the chorus "I'm Dennis the Menace from Venice". The creation of Dennis in the 1950s had sales of ''The Beano'' soar. In issue 1678 (dated 14 September 1974), Dennis the Menace replaced Biffo the Bear on the front cover, and has been there until to issue 3961 (dated 17 November 2018). ''Dennis and Gnasher'' (or ''Dennis the Menace'' and ''Dennis the Menace and Gnasher'') is a British animated television series based on characters from ''The Beano'' comic, which was broadcast on BBC from 2 April 1996 until 7 May 1998. Reruns aired on CBBC until January 2009. The series was produced by Collingwood O'Hare Productions and D.C. Thomson & Co. in association with BBC Television, alongside Flextech and PolyGram Video for the first season only. It was distributed by HIT Entertainment worldwide and was directed and largely written by Tony Collingwood. ''Dennis the Menace and Gnasher'' (originally known as ''Dennis and Gnasher'' in its first series) is an animated television series which was aired on CBBC. Based on the original comic strips from ''The Beano'', it features the adventures of the rebellious schoolboy Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher. The programme is aimed for ages 4–12 and commenced on 7 September 2009 and ended on 26 February 2010 after 52 episodes. A second series was started on 8 July 2013 on the CBBC Channel. It was preceded by '' Dennis and Gnasher'' which aired in 1996 and a new series in 1998. Production The new series features the return of 10-year-old Dennis, Gnasher, Mum, Dad, Curly and Pie-Face and also features the introduction of Dennis' little sister Bea, as well as several original characters like Athena. ''Dennis the Menace'' (known as ''Dennis'' in Europe) is a platform game adaptation of the 1993 film of the same name which itself is based on the '' Dennis the Menace'' comic strip. The object of the game is to defeat the antagonist from the film, Switchblade Sam, who managed to find Dennis' town via the local railroad connection. "Tennis the Menace" is the twelfth episode of the twelfth season of the American animated television series ''The Simpsons''. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on February 11, 2001. In the episode, the Simpsons build a tennis court in their backyard and are ridiculed by the entire town because of Homer's inferior tennis ability.
