Denmark At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Denmark competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Danish athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games throughout the modern era, except for the sparsely attended 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis. The Danish team consisted of 120 athletes, 79 men and 41 women, across sixteen sports. Before the start of the games, DIF sat an official medal goal of 10 medals for the Rio games. Denmark returned home from Rio de Janeiro with 15 medals (2 golds, 6 silver, and 7 bronze), marking the country's most successful outcome in Summer Olympic history since 1948. Christinna Pedersen
Christinna Pedersen (born 12 May 1986) is a Danish badminton player. Career Christinna Pedersen is a right-handed doubles specialist. From 2008 onwards, Pedersen paired with Joachim Fischer Nielsen in mixed doubles. The pair gained two European mixed doubles titles, won bronze at the 2009 Hyderabad World Championships and at the 2014 World Championships, and came third at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Pedersen and Fischer Nielsen also produced strong results on the BWF Super Series circuit, winning a total of three World Superseries Finals and ten Superseries titles, and reaching a career high World Ranking of number 1. Mads Christiansen
Mads Christiansen (born 3 May 1986) is a Danish former handballer. He is an Olympics champion from 2016 and a European champion from 2012. He is currently the head of youth development at Danish club Aarhus Håndbold. Playing Career In 2006 he joined TMS Ringsted from GOG Svendborg. Here he was the club topscorer for both seasons he played there. In 2008 he joined AaB Håndbold. Here he won the Danish championship and Cup in 2010. When the club acquired Johan Jakobsen in 2011 he began to see less playing time, and therefore he joined Team Tvis Holstebro to become a first choice player. Here he was the captain of the team. Niklas Landin Jacobsen
Niklas Landin Jacobsen (born 19 December 1988) is a Danish handballer for Aalborg Håndbold. He is European Champion with the Danish national team, after winning the 2012 Championship in Serbia, defeating the host nation in the final, 21–19. Niklas Landin was the captain of the Denmark national team from 2012 until his retirement from the national team in 2024. Swimming At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 13 August at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium. The women's open-water marathon was held on August 15, and the men's open water race on August 16 in Fort Copacabana. Open water quality The location for open-water events was a source of concern for athletes since scientists have found microbes in the waters off of Fort Copacabana and drug-resistant super bacteria off the beaches of Rio de Janeiro in 2014 and 2016 studies due to the daily dumping of hospital waste and household raw sewage into the rivers and ocean. Ten percent of the Copacabana water test samples contained drug-resistant super bacteria. However, during the races the water quality was good.
