Arnold Denker
Arnold Sheldon Denker (February 21, 1914 – January 2, 2005) was an American chess player and author. He was U.S. champion in 1944 and 1946. In later years he served in various chess organizations, receiving recognition from the United States Chess Federation, including in 2004 the highest honor, "Dean of American Chess". Rising star Denker was born on February 21, 1914, in the Bronx, New York City, in an Orthodox Jewish family. According to Denker himself, he learned chess in 1923 watching his elder brothers play, but took up the game seriously only in his freshman year in Theodore Roosevelt High School, where his schoolmates played for a nickel a game in the cafeteria. After steadily losing his milk money for a long time, Denker discovered former world chess champion Emanuel Lasker's book "Common Sense in Chess" in the school library, studied the book, and soon "the nickels came pouring back with interest". Henry Denker
Henry Denker (November 25, 1912 – May 15, 2012) was an American novelist and playwright. Biography Denker was born in New York, the son of a fur trader. After initially studying to be a rabbi, he change to the study of law and graduated from New York Law School in 1934. He stopped practicing law but used his legal background for numerous written works. Denker was admitted to the New York Bar in 1935, at the height of the Depression, and he soon left law practice to earn his living by writing. His legal training was reflected in many of his works. During Denker's brief legal career, he won a Workmen's Compensation case which, according to Denker, for the first time established that a physical trauma can induce a mental disease. In another case, Denker served a summons on heavyweight champion Jack Johnson. Lydia Norma Denker (born 25 December 1980, Germany) is an Australian-based pop singer-songwriter. Her second single, " One Perfect Day", was released in 2004, which peaked at No. 35 on the ARIA Singles Chart. In August 2006 Denker made the top 24 of the fourth season of ''Australian Idol'', but did not advance to the top 12. Travis Norton Denker (born August 5, 1985) is an American former professional baseball infielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Francisco Giants. Prior to playing professional baseball, Denker attended Brea Olinda High School. Professional career Los Angeles Dodgers Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 21st round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft, Denker signed and started his professional career that very same year. The Denker Tournament of High School Champions is a chess tournament that occurs annually in the United States alongside the US Open, Dewain Barber National Tournament of Middle School State Champions, IM Ruth Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions and John D. Rockefeller III National Tournament of Elementary State Champions. The tournament is named for the founder, Arnold Denker and is usually referred to as "The Denker". Dirk Denkers (born January 27, 1957) is a retired American soccer player who spent one season in both the North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League as well as an unknown number in the American Soccer League. Denkers attended UC Davis where he played on the men's soccer team from 1975 to 1977. In 1978, Denkers turned professional with the Minnesota Kicks of the North American Soccer League. Nils Dencker
Nils Jonas Dencker (born 14 December 1953 in Lund) is a Swedish mathematician. Dencker earned his doctorate from Lund University in 1981 under supervision of Lars Hörmander, and is a professor of mathematics at Lund University. From 1981 until 1983, he was the C. L. E. Moore instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He won the 2005 Clay Research Award for his proof of the Nirenberg–Treves conjecture. Dencker has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 2008. He was an invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematics in Amsterdam in 2008, and at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad, India, in 2010.
