Denis Mahony
Denis "Danno" Mahony (23 July 1928 – 3 April 2017) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a right corner-back at senior level for the Dublin county team. Born in Cork, Mahony and his family later settled in Glasnevin in Dublin. Educated at the O'Connell School, he later joined the St Vincent's club. During his club career, Mahony won eight county senior championship medals. Mahony made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was selected for the Dublin minor team. He played for two championship seasons with the minor team, culminating with the winning of an All-Ireland medal in his debut season in 1945. Mahony subsequently joined the Dublin senior team. During his career he won one Leinster medal and two National Football League medals. He played his last championship game for Dublin in July 1957. Mahony died on 3 April 2017. The National Football League (NFL; ) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Unlike many league competitions in sport, each team plays the other teams in their division only once. Teams that meet in the same division over the course of a number of years often play on a home and away basis in alternative years, though this is not strictly adhered to. Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland. Leinster Minor Football Championship
The Leinster Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in gaelic football played in the province of Leinster. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 championship following a vote at the GAA Congress on 26 February 2016. The current Leinster champions are Longford. The Leinster minor football championship is known as the Fr. Larry Murray Trophy. The Cup is named after Fr. Larry Murray who was an underage GAA mentor in both Louth and Armagh, hence the Ulster Minor Football Championship is also named after Fr. Larry Murray. History The Leinster Minor Football Championship was first played in 1928, however progress stalled at the semi-final stage and the competition was never completed. The 1955 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 69th staging of Ireland's premier Gaelic football knock-out competition. Meath were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Dublin in the Leinster final. Kerry were the winners. Note Quarter Finals were back in the Munster championship but Clare only skipped 1 year. Limerick, not part of the championship between 1953 and 1964, were approved to host Waterford in the Quarter Final but did not play them due to a dispute over the eligibility of players. Leinster Senior Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship and shortened to Leinster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster GAA, Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship#Leinster Senior Football Championship, 1888 championship. The final serves as the culmination of a series of games played during April and May, and the results determine which team receives the Delaney Cup. Gaelic football (; short name '')'', commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA, or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or palming the ball into the other team's Goal (sport), goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the ball up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands).
