Denis J. Barry (June 2, 1929 – December 20, 2003, in Tucson, Arizona) was president of the United States Chess Federation from 1993 to 1996. He was an enthusiastic chess organizer, best known for establishing the US Amateur Team East Chess Championship, which is held annually in Parsippany, New Jersey, and which remains one of the most popular USCF events. Barry was the captain and guide for the US Blind Team in three Blind Chess Olympiads. Dennis Barrie
Dennis Barrie (born 1947) is a museum director responsible for the curation of American pop culture. He was the Director of the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center from 1983–1992. In 1990 Barrie and the gallery were indicted on obscenity charges stemming from exhibiting sadomasochistic photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe as part of an exhibit entitled ''The Perfect Moment''. This was the first criminal trial of an art museum over the contents of an exhibition. At trial, a Cincinnati jury acquitted Barrie and the Center. The controversy was later chronicled in a TV movie titled ''Dirty Pictures.'' Barrie went on to become a co-creator of Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where he served as an executive director from 1993–1998. Denny Barry
Denis Barry (15 July 1883 – 20 November 1923) was an Irish Republican who died during the 1923 Irish hunger strikes, shortly after the Irish Civil War. Early life Barry was born into a farming family in Riverstick, in south County Cork, and learnt Irish from a young age. In 1903, he moved to Cork to work in a drapery, where he became involved in the Gaelic League and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. A successful athlete, he also played hurling for Cork. Volunteer activity In 1913, he joined the newly formed Irish Volunteers. In 1915, he moved to Kilkenny to take up employment there, where he continued his volunteer activities. Shortly after the Easter Rising, he was arrested in Kilkenny in a British Government crackdown, and sent to Frongoch internment camp in North Wales. Dinny Barry-Murphy
Dinny Barry-Murphy (17 July 1903 – 21 August 1973) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Cloughduv, County Cork, Barry-Murphy first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Finbarr's College, Farranferris. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Cork junior team before later joining the senior side. He made his senior debut during the 1926 championship. Barry-Murphy immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won four All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and two National Hurling League medals. The All-Ireland-winning captain of 1929, he was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At international level Barry-Murphy played for the victorious Tailteann Games hurling team in 1932.
