''Demon of the Himalayas'' (german: Der Dämon des Himalaya) is a 1935 German-Swiss co-production adventure film directed by Andrew Marton and starring Gustav Diessl, Erika Dannhoff, and Günter Oskar Dyhrenfurth. It is part of the Mountain film genre which was popular during the era. Location shooting was done during the 1934 International Himalayan Expedition and a number of the Expedition's participants appeared in the film. The film premiered in Zürich in March 1935. It received a mixed reception from critics. Andrew Marton
Andrew Marton (born Endre Marton; 26 January 1904 – 7 January 1992) was a Hungarian-American film director. In his career, he directed 39 films and television programs, and worked on 16 as a second unit director, including the chariot race in '' Ben Hur'' (1959). Life and career Marton was born in Budapest, Hungary. After high-school graduation in 1922 he was taken by Alfréd Deésy to Vienna to work at Sascha-Film, mostly as an assistant editor. After a few months, he rose the attention of director Ernst Lubitsch, who convinced him to try Hollywood. Marton returned to Europe in 1927, and worked as the main editor of the Tobis company in Berlin, and later as an assistant director in Vienna. He directed his ''Two O'Clock in the Morning'', first feature film, in 1929 in Great Britain. He joined a German expedition to Tibet in 1934, where he filmed '' Demon of the Himalayas''. André Roch
André Roch (August 21, 1906 in Hermance, Switzerland – November 19, 2002 in Geneva) was a mountaineer, avalanche researcher and expert, skier, resort developer, engineer, and author. Roch is best known for having planned and surveyed the Aspen, Colorado, ski resort, and also as an adviser on avalanche management whose expertise was sought throughout the world. Early life Roch was born near Geneva, Switzerland, in 1906, the son of an academic physician who would later become the president of the University of Geneva. He was introduced to mountain sports by his father, who was an avid climber, and he learned to ski at an early age. He won both the downhill and the slalom races at the 1927 Student Olympics in Italy. In his youth he traveled and pursued university education in the United States.
