The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is a Unionism in Ireland, unionist, Ulster loyalism, loyalist, British nationalist and national conservative political party in Northern Ireland. It was founded in 1971 during the Troubles by Ian Paisley, who led the party for the next 37 years. It is currently led by Gavin Robinson, who initially stepped in as an interim after the resignation of Jeffrey Donaldson. It is the second-largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly, and won five seats in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom at the 2024 United Kingdom general election, 2024 election. Arabic Democratic Unionist Party
The Arab Democratic Union Party (, ''Hizb Al-Ittihad Al-'Arabi Al-Dimuqrati'') was a nationalist political party in Syria. During the Ba'athist era, it was part of the National Progressive Front (NPF) of parties that supported the Ba'ath Party. In the 22 April 2007 People's Council of Syria election the party was awarded 1 out of 250 seats in the parliament. Following the fall of the Assad regime, the party along with the NPF was dissolved by the Syrian transitional government on 29 January 2025. Ideology The party was committed to the ideals of Nasserism, the party states its intent as, "Building a society that is governed by social justice and in its ideological approach and its struggle is guided by Nasserism, thought and practice". Democratic Unionist Party (Sudan)
The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP; ), also referred to by itself as the Original Democratic Unionist Party, is a political party in Sudan, closely tied to the Khatmiyya Sufi order. Established in 1952 as the National Unionist Party (NUP), it is one of two political parties predating Sudan's independence, along with the Umma Party. Founded by Mohammed Uthman al-Mirghani II's Khatmiyya order and Ismail al-Azhari's urban nationalist Ashigga Party (est. 1943), it is often considered Sudan's oldest political party. Having won a clear majority in Sudan's first parliamentary election, al-Azhari became Sudan's first prime minister, who in 1955 declared independence from colonial rule. The party broke apart in 1956, with the Khatmiyya order founding the new People's Democratic Party (PDP), but reunited in 1967, resulting in the current name. Socialist Democratic Unionist Party
The Socialist Democratic Unionist Party (, PUDS) was an Arab nationalist political party in Mauritania. As of 2013, the party was led by Mahfouz Weld al-Azizi. History The party was founded on 20 September 1994 by a mixture of Arab nationalists and members of a secret Ba'ath party association in Mauritania. The party's name was inspired by the slogan of the Ba'ath party: "Unity, Liberty, Socialism," because Mauritanian electoral law prevents a party's from sharing the name of non-Mauritanian parties. The party's first conference, held in Nouakchott on 11 July 2010, was attended by Abdullah al-Ahmar, the Assistant Secretary General of the National Command of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party. The party won a seat in the 19 November and 3 December 2006 elections. In the most recent elections in 2018, the party received only 0.31% of the vote.
