Degelia Plumbea
''Degelia plumbea'' (also called blue felt lichen) is a species of grey to blue-black or brown foliose lichen in the genus ''Degelia''. It mostly grows on trees in undisturbed woodlands but occasionally on coastal rocks. It is found widely in Britain and western Ireland as well as in America and Canada, as it grows in maritime Atlantic climates. ''D. plumbea'' is highly sensitive to acid rain and climatic changes. ''D. plumbea'' and other lichen are highly sensitive to high light and have a high-water holding capacity. Other factors like method of dispersal and obtaining the appropriate substrate effects the growth and prosperity of the fungi. The genes in the ''D. plumbea'' don’t share a common ancestral gene through speciation due to potential environmental changes. '' Degelia cyanoloma'' was previously thought to be a variant of ''D. plumbea''. Peltigerales Genera
Peltigerales is an order of lichen-forming fungi belonging to the class Lecanoromycetes in the division Ascomycota. The taxonomy of the group has seen numerous changes; it was formerly often treated as a suborder of the order Lecanorales. It contains two suborders, eight families and about 45 genera such as '' Lobaria'' and '' Peltigera''. The fungi form lichens in a symbiotic relationship with one or two photosynthetic partners which may be a cyanobacterium such as ''Nostoc'' or a green alga such as '' Coccomyxa''. The majority of species contain just a cyanobacterium, a smaller number have both a cyanobacterium and a green alga while only a few species have just a green alga. The thallus of the lichen may be foliose (leafy), subfruticose (somewhat shrubby) or granular-squamulose (scaly). The thallus attaches to a surface by means of small root-like rhizines. In some species, the thallus may vary in appearance depending on whether it contains a cyanobacterium or a green alga. ... Lichen Genera
A lichen ( , ) is a hybrid colony (biology), colony of algae or cyanobacteria living symbiotically among hypha, filaments of multiple fungus species, along with yeasts and bacteria embedded in the cortex or "skin", in a mutualism (biology), mutualistic relationship.Introduction to Lichens – An Alliance between Kingdoms . University of California Museum of Paleontology. . Lichens are the lifeform that first brought the term symbiosis (as ''Symbiotismus'') into biological context. Lichens have since been recognized as important actors in nutrient cycling and producers which many higher trophic feeders feed on, such as reindeer, gastropods, nematodes, mites, and springtails. Lichens have properties different from those of their component organisms. They come in man ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Degelia Neozelandica
''Degelia neozelandica'' is a species of foliose lichen in the genus ''Degelia''. The species was initially described under '' Steinera'', but was removed in 1982 when the genus was revised by Aino Henssen and Peter Wilfred James. It was then placed into ''Parmeliella'', and later into ''Degelia''. Distribution and habitat ''Degelia neozelandica'' is most widely found in New Zealand, on both Macquarie and South Islands, but has also been found in a single alpine locality in Tasmania, Australia. It grows on fine sandy soil in subalpine Montane ecosystems are found on the slopes of mountains.
