''Deep Roots'' is a studio album by Steven Curtis Chapman. Chapman alongside Cracker Barrel released the album on March 11, 2013. Background and recording The album was recorded at Beech Street Studios by Brent King and mixed by him along with Sean Moffitt, while the album was mastered by Brad Blackwood from Euphonic Masters. The album has performances by his father, Herb Chapman Sr. and his brother Herb Chapman Jr. alongside ones from his eldest son, Caleb Chapman from Colony House, and his daughter-in-law, Jillian Edwards Chapman, who is married to his son, Will Chapman. The gospel music and bluegrass music legend Ricky Skaggs performs on this album. Steven Curtis Chapman (born November 21, 1962) is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, author, and social activist. Dan Dugmore
Dan Dugmore is an American session musician known primarily for playing the pedal steel guitar Born in 1949, Dugmore was raised in Pasadena, California. Influenced by the Flying Burrito Brothers, he learned to play steel guitar after Flying Burrito Brothers member Sneaky Pete Kleinow sold him one. Dugmore then joined John Stewart's road band, and then Linda Ronstadt's; he also played for several James Taylor albums. In the 1990s, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he began playing steel guitar on country music albums. He self-released a Beatles cover album in 2003 titled ''Off White Album''. Bryan Sutton
Bryan Sutton is an American musician. Primarily known as a flatpicking acoustic guitar player, Sutton also plays mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and electric guitar. He also sings and writes songs. Biography Early career Sutton's grandfather and father were regionally recognized fiddlers, and Sutton grew up playing in the family band, the Pisgah Pickers. In 1991, he played guitar for Karen Peck and New River, a gospel group. In 1993, he moved to Nashville. "Rock of Ages" is a popular Christian hymn written by the Reformed Anglican minister Augustus Toplady. History The first four lines for the 1st version of the 1st verse were published in '' The Gospel Magazine'' in October, 1775. The first publication in full was the following spring in the March, 1776 edition of ''The Gospel Magazine,'' with a revised first verse, plus three more verses. A slightly further revised version was published that summer in July 1776 in Toplady's hymnal ''Psalms & Hymns for Public and Private Worship.'' "He Touched Me" is a gospel song written by Bill Gaither in 1963. History While Bill Gaither was accompanying Dr. Dale Oldham on his evangelistic crusades, the preacher said to him, "Bill, the word 'touch' is a very popular word. It comes up so often in the New Testament stories about Jesus touching people's eyes and healing them, or touching people's lives and changing them. It's a special, spiritual word and you ought to write a song that praises His touch." So Gaither did. That week, Dr. Oldham's son Doug Oldham began singing it in the meetings. Charles Davis Tillman (March 20, 1861, Tallassee, Alabama – September 2, 1943, Atlanta, Georgia) —also known as Charlie D. Tillman, Charles Tillman, Charlie Tillman, and C. D. Blessed Assurance
"Blessed Assurance" is a well-known Christian hymn. The lyrics were written in 1873 by blind hymn writer Fanny Crosby to the music written in 1873 by Phoebe Knapp. History Crosby was visiting her friend Phoebe Knapp as the Knapp home was having a large pipe organ installed. The organ was incomplete, so Mrs. Knapp, using the piano, played a new melody she had just composed. When Knapp asked Crosby, "What do you think the tune says?", Crosby replied, "Blessed assurance; Jesus is mine." The hymn appeared in the July 1873 issue of Palmer's ''Guide to Holiness and Revival Miscellany'', a magazine printed by Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Palmer of 14 Bible House, New York City. It appeared on page 36 (the last page) with complete text and piano score, and indicated it had been copyrighted by Crosby that year.
