Zombie
A zombie (Haitian French: ; ; Kikongo: ''zumbi'') is a mythological undead corporeal revenant created through the reanimation of a corpse. In modern popular culture, zombies appear in horror genre works. The term comes from Haitian folklore, in which a ''zombie'' is a dead body reanimated through various methods, most commonly magical practices in religions like Vodou. Modern media depictions of the reanimation of the dead often do not involve magic but rather science fictional methods such as fungi, radiation, gases, diseases, plants, bacteria, viruses, etc. Zombies are real-life individuals in Haiti who have undergone a religious punishment called zombification for committing crimes such as rape or land theft. They are drugged, buried alive, exhumed and then enslaved by secret societies in Haiti. This practice became the basis for the zombie myth of a resurrected corpse. The English word "zombie" was first recorded in 1819 in a history of Brazil by the poet Robert S ...

While hunting, the species can remain submerged around 20 minutes, diving to a depth of . It has several adaptations to facilitate this, including an unusually structured Hemoglobin, haemoglobin to allow it to function at low oxygen levels, solid bones to reduce barotrauma, and the ability to reduce its metabolism and shut down non-essential ...

It is sometimes called the Antarctic cranch squid or giant squid (not to be confused with the giant squid in genus ''Architeuthis'') and is believed to be the largest squid species in terms of mass. It is the only recognized member of the genus ''Mesonychoteuthis''. The species is confirmed to reach a mass of at least , though the largest specimens—known only from beaks found in sperm whale stomachs—may perhaps weigh as much as , making it the largest extant invertebrate. If tentacles are considered, lengths of and exist, but the former estimate is more likely.Roper, C.F.E. & P. Jereb (2010). Family Cr ...

The anglerfish are ray-finned fish in the order Lophiiformes (). Both the order's common name, common and scientific name comes from the characteristic mode of predation, in which a modified dorsal Fish fin#Ray-fins, fin ray acts as a Aggressive mimicry#Food as an attractant, lure for prey (akin to a human Angling, angler, and likened to a crest or "''wikt:Lophius, lophos''"). The modified fin ray, with the very tip being the Esca (fish anatomy), esca and the length of the structure the Illicium (fish anatomy), illicium, is adapted to attract specific prey items across the families of anglerfish by using different luring methods. Anglerfish occur worldwide. The majority are bottom-dwellers, being demersal fish, while the aberrant deep-sea anglerfish are Pelagic fish, pelagic, (mostly) living high in the water column. These unique physical traits distinguish it from other octopuses, which primarily rely on jet propulsion. Prey include crustaceans, bivalves, worms and copepods. The average life span of various ''Grimpoteuthis'' species is 3 to 5 years. Range and habitat Species of ''Grimpoteuthis'' are assumed to have a worldwide distribution, living in the cold, Abyssal plain, abyssal depths ranging from .
