Omar Aggad
Omar A. Aggad ( ar, عمر العقاد; 20 April 1927 – 1 February 2018) was a Saudi Palestinian businessman, the founder of Aggad Investment Company (AICO), and the founder and former chairman of Arab Palestinian Investment Company (APIC). Early life Aggad was born in Jaffa, Mandatory Palestine, in 1927, and attended Alrashidieh College in Jerusalem. He subsequently received a scholarship to attend the University of Manchester in the UK where he graduated with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering. Career After working for a few years in the UK, he moved to Saudi Arabia in 1950 where he joined the Juffali Group as a senior manager. In 1975, he ventured out on his own and created what would become one of the leading investment groups in Saudi Arabia. He established over 40 industrial and trade ventures in Saudi Arabia, most of which still exist. Volleyball At The 1964 Summer Olympics
The 1964 Summer Olympics was the first time that Volleyball had been held as an Olympic sport. The sport would feature two medals during this games with the men's and women's indoor teams events. In both tournaments, the format was the same with a single round robin between all of the teams that was competing in the tournament. In the men's competition, the Soviet Union took out the gold medal as they won eight out of their nine games with the only loss being in Japan who came third. Finishing behind only on sets difference was Czechoslovakia who had only their single loss against the Soviet Union. In the women's competition, Japan won all five of their games to take the gold medal ahead of the Soviet Union and Poland who claimed silver and bronze respectively. Patricia Lindop
Patricia Joyce Lindop FRCP (21 June 1930 – 1 February 2018) was British professor of radiation biology at the University of London and the organiser of at least 100 "Pugwash" meetings at which scientists met to discuss their campaign for nuclear disarmament. Early life and family Patricia Lindop was born on 21 June 1930, the second child of Elliot D. Lindop and Dorothy Jones. Her father was an engineer who had worked for Shell in India and later owned his own fuel distribution business. She was educated at Malvern Girls' College in Worcestershire and it was there that she met her future husband, Gerald Paton Rivett Esdale (died 1992), who was a pupil at the neighbouring boys' college. They married in 1957 and had one son and one daughter. John Jacob Lavranos
John Jacob Lavranos (29 March 1926, in Corfu – 1 February 2018, in Portugal) was a Greek/South African insurance broker and botanist, with a special interest in succulents. He scientifically described almost 300 new species of plants, and a number have been named in his honor. Early life John's mother, Lily, was half Swiss/German, and lived for most of her married life in the family house in Chlomos in Corfu. She and her husband Philip cared for John and his younger brother, Max, saw the occupation of Corfu during WWII, and lived through the bombings by Italians, Germans, British and Americans, only to be plunged immediately into the Greek Civil War of 1946 to 1949. Li Kelin (; 14 September 1942 – 1 February 2018) was a Chinese business executive who served as President of China Shipping Group, often considered the "father of the Chinese container shipping industry". Biography Li was born in Zhenhai District, Zhejiang on 14 September 1942. He graduated from Shanghai Maritime University, joined Shanghai Shipping Corporation in 1961, and was promoted to captain in 1971. Robert Larsson (20 February 1967 – 1 February 2018) was a Swedish professional ice hockey player who played 249 games with Skellefteå AIK from 1985 to 1995. Larsson was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the 6th round (112th overall) of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft The 1988 NHL Entry Draft was the 26th NHL Entry Draft. Nicholas von Hoffman (October 16, 1929 – February 1, 2018) was an American journalist and author. He first worked as a community organizer for Saul Alinsky in Chicago for ten years from 1953 to 1963. Later, Von Hoffman wrote for ''The Washington Post'', and most notably, was a commentator on the CBS ''Point-Counterpoint'' segment for ''60 Minutes,'' from which Don Hewitt fired him in 1974. von Hoffman was also a columnist for ''The Huffington Post''.
