Death Of Ali Saremi
Ali Saremi () was a political prisoner in Iran who was sentenced to death for co-operation with the Iranian opposition group People's Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI) and was hanged in Evin Prison on December 28, 2010. Saremi's torture and execution was covered in the press and brought international attention to the Human rights situation in Iran. Arrest Saremi was the longest-serving political prisoner in Iran. He was imprisoned for about 23 years in Iranian prisons before and after the Iranian revolution in 1979. His latest arrest came in 2007 after visiting his son at Camp Ashraf, a refugee community in Iraq that was home to an estimated 3,500 exiled members of the Mujahedeen, PMOI. According to sources, Ali Saremi was hanged on December 10, 2010, by the Iranian government in Iran for sympathizing with the MEK's ideological aspirations. Evin Prison () is a prison located in the Evin neighborhood of Tehran, Iran. The prison has been the primary site for detaining Iran's political prisoners since 1972, before and after the Iranian Revolution, in a purpose-built wing nicknamed "Evin University" due to the high number of students and intellectuals detained there. Evin Prison has been accused of committing "serious human rights abuses" against detained political dissidents and critics of the government. Camp Ashraf
Camp Ashraf or Ashraf City is a camp in Iraq's Diyala Governorate, having the character of a small city with all basic infrastructure, and the former headquarters of the People's Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The population used to be around 3,400 in 2012, but in 2013 nearly all were relocated to Camp Liberty near Baghdad International Airport after pressure by then-prime minister Nouri al-Maliki's office.
