Death And State Funeral Of Meles Zenawi
Meles Zenawi, who led Ethiopia as Prime Minister since 1995, and served as chairman of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) since 1988, died in office on 20 August 2012. He had not appeared in public for a month prior to his death. It was speculated that he was in poor health and he was expected to recover before Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year on 11 September 2012. His state funeral took place on 2 September with high-profile political figures from around the world, including 20 African leaders and senior US officials such as US Ambassador Susan Rice attending. Azeb Mesfin Haile (Amharic and ; born 21 December 1966) is an Ethiopian politician who was the second First Lady of Ethiopia from 2001 to 2012. Azeb is the widow of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. She is the founder and patron of National Initiative for Mental Health of Ethiopia. Holy Trinity Cathedral (Addis Ababa)
Holy Trinity Cathedral, also known in Amharic as Kidist Selassie, is the highest ranking Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was built to commemorate the Ethiopian victory over Italian occupation and is an important place of worship in Ethiopia, alongside other cathedrals such as the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum. Title The cathedral bears the title "Menbere Tsebaot", or "Pure Altar". Built in 1942, the church compound was the burial place for those who fought against the Italian occupation, or those who accompanied the Emperor Haile Selassie into exile from 1936 to 1941. The National Palace (), formerly Jubilee Palace, is a palace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is an official residence of President of Ethiopia since the Derg government. Prior to the date, it was the house of Emperor Haile Selassie until the 1974 coup d'état. History The palace was built in 1955 and named Jubilee to mark the Silver Jubilee of Emperor Haile Selassie.
