Daytona Prototype
A Daytona Prototype was a type of sports prototype racing car developed specifically for the Grand-Am Road Racing, Grand American Road Racing Association's Rolex Sports Car Series as their top class of car, which replaced their main prototype racing class, specifically Le Mans Prototypes (LMPs). The cars later competed in the merged series of the IMSA SportsCar Championship, from 2014 to 2016, before being phased out and replaced by the Daytona Prototype International class in 2017. They are named after the main series event, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Cheever Racing
Cheever Racing was an auto racing team founded in 1996 by Eddie Cheever as Team Cheever in the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series. They fielded a car for Cheever for much of its existence, but occasionally ran two cars, almost always for the Indianapolis 500. The team won the 1998 Indianapolis 500 with Cheever driving and then switched to Infiniti engines and gained sponsorship from Excite for 2000. The team continued to be moderately successful and gained Infiniti's first series win. When Infiniti left the series in 2003 the team, which by then was sponsored by Red Bull switched to Chevrolet engines and then switched to Toyota in 2005, after Chevrolet's departure. Krohn Racing is a professional sports car racing team based in Houston, Texas (U.S. state), Texas. Picchio DP2
The Picchio DP2 is a first-generation Daytona Prototype race car, designed, developed and built by Italian manufacturer Picchio, for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, in 2003. It was powered by a BMW V8 engine. A total of three cars were built. An evolution to this car named the DP3, entered development in 2005, with the aim to enter the 2005 Le Mans Series. Upgrades to the suspension, gearbox and overall durability were planned however, this never came to fruition and the car never raced. Competition history 2003 G&W Motorsports would be the first team to campaign the car in the new rule set. The Multimatic MDP1 (also referred to as the Multimatic Ford Focus) is a first-generation Daytona Prototype race car, designed, developed and built by American manufacturer Multimatic, for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, in 2003. It was powered by a Robert-Yates Racing Ford V8 engine. A total of four cars were built. The chassis would form the basis of the second-generation Daytona Prototype, Proto-Auto Lola B08/70.
