David Roddy (law Enforcement)
David Roddy is an American retired police officer who was chief of the Chattanooga Police Department. Early life and education Roddy was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from Tyler High School. Roddy completed a B.S. at Middle Tennessee State University. Career Roddy began his career at the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) as a patrol officer. He later served as captain of different divisions such as uniformed services and internal affairs. Chief Fred Fletcher selected Roddy as chief of staff in 2014. Roddy served as acting chief when Fletcher was out of the office on personal leave. Roddy was nominated as chief of the CPD by mayor Andy Berke and confirmed by the Chattanooga City Council on August 22, 2017. The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is the primary law enforcement organization serving Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the United States. The department is headed by a chief of police, with one deputy chief and three assistant chiefs commanding the major bureaus of the department: the Uniformed Services Bureau, the Investigative Services Bureau, and the Administration and Support Services Bureau. Andy Berke
Andrew Lawrence Berke (born March 31, 1968) is an American attorney and politician from Tennessee. He served as the mayor of Chattanooga from 2013 to 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Hamilton and Marion counties in the 10th district as a state senator from 2007 to 2012. On March 5, 2013, he became Chattanooga's mayor-elect, winning more than 72% of the vote, and he was inaugurated on April 15, 2013. Berke was reelected on March 7, 2017, and served until April 19, 2021, when he was succeeded by Tim Kelly. Murder Of George Floyd
On , George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was murdered in the U.S. city of Minneapolis by Derek Chauvin, a 44-year-old white police officer. Floyd had been arrested on suspicion of using a counterfeit $20 bill. Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for over nine minutes while Floyd was handcuffed and lying face-down in a street. George Floyd Protests
The George Floyd protests were a series of protests and civil unrest against police brutality and racism that began in Minneapolis on May 26, 2020, and largely took place during 2020. The civil unrest and protests began as part of international reactions to the murder of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man who was murdered during an arrest after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis Police Department officer, knelt on Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds as three other officers looked on and prevented passers-by from intervening.
