David "Fathead" Newman
David "Fathead" Newman (February 24, 1933 – January 20, 2009) was an American jazz and rhythm-and-blues saxophonist, who made numerous recordings as a session musician and leader, but is best known for his work as a sideman on seminal 1950s and early 1960s recordings by Ray Charles. The AllMusic Guide to Jazz wrote that "there have not been many saxophonists and flutists more naturally soulful than David 'Fathead' Newman." Newman was a leading proponent of the "Texas Tenor" saxophone style, a big-toned, bluesy approach popularized by jazz tenor players from that state. Early life Newman was born in Corsicana, Texas, United States, on February 24, 1933, but grew up in Dallas, where he studied first the piano and then the saxophone. David Newman (February 4, 1937 – June 27, 2003) was an American screenwriter. From the late 1960s through the early 1980s he frequently collaborated with Robert Benton. He was married to fellow writer Leslie Newman, with whom he had two children, until his death in 2003 from a stroke. Career Newman studied at the University of Michigan. He went to work at ''Esquire'' magazine where he met Robert Benton. The two of them wrote ''Bonnie and Clyde'' which made them highly in demand in Hollywood. David Louis Newman (born March 11, 1954) is an American composer and conductor known particularly for his film scores. In a career spanning more than thirty years, he has composed music for nearly 100 feature films, as well as the 1997 and 1998 versions of the 20th Century Fox fanfare. He received an Academy Award nomination for writing the score to the 1997 film ''Anastasia'', contributing to the Newmans being the most nominated Academy Award extended family, with a collective 92 nominations in various music categories. Since December 1999, after service in public office, he returned to private practice at the law firm Pitblado LLP. Newman serves as an advocate, negotiator and dispute resolver. David Newman OBE (Hebrew: דיויד ניומן; born 4 July 1956) is a British-Israeli scholar in political geography and geopolitics. He is a professor at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) Department of Politics and Government and was this department's first chairperson. Newman also served for many years as chief editor of the academic journal ''Geopolitics'' and as dean of BGU's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
