David Michael (politician)
David Robert Michael (born 25 January 1980) is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since the 2017 state election, representing Balcatta. Michael is the WA Parliament's first MP of Finnish descent. Michael worked for several state Labor MPs, and ran unsuccessfully for Churchlands in 2001. In 2005 he was elected to City of Stirling council, becoming its youngest ever member, aged 25. He served as deputy mayor from 2011 to 2013. Michael's current priorities as MP are upgrades to Balcatta Senior High School and Osborne Park Hospital and for the McGowan Government as is the Stephenson Avenue Extension. In March 2021, he was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary to the returned McGowan Labor Government, after having served as Government Whip since the 2017 election. Western Australian Legislative Assembly
The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. Role and operation Most legislation in Western Australia is initiated in the Legislative Assembly. The Minister for Local Government is a position in the Cabinet of Western Australia, first created in 1949 during the McLarty–Watts Ministry. The minister, who may also hold other portfolios, is responsible for the relationships between the state government and the local government areas of Western Australia, often facilitated through the WA Local Government Association (WALGA). Claremont Tigers
The Claremont Football Club, nicknamed Tigers, is an Australian rules football club based in Claremont, Western Australia, that currently plays in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). Its official colours are navy blue and gold. Perth Wildcats
The Perth Wildcats are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Wildcats compete in the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at Perth Arena, RAC Arena, known colloquially as "The Jungle". After three years of strong lobbying to the NBL, the creation of a national basketball team in Perth finally occurred in 1982. Servite College
Servite College is an independent Roman Catholic co-educational secondary day school, located in the Perth suburb of Tuart Hill, Western Australia. The school is operated by the Servite Order. History Servite College was founded by members of the Servite Order, who arrived in Perth in late 1951. In 1958 the Servite Friars established St. Philip’s Regional High School for Boys in Tuart Hill. The school opened with 95 students in two classrooms, educating boys in years 5 and 6. In 1968 the name was changed to Servite College, and in 1973 the College became the first co-educational Catholic secondary school in Western Australia, accepting female students from neighbouring St Kieran, now a Catholic primary school.
