David Mays
David Mays is the founder of ''The Source'' Magazine and co-founder of ''Hip Hop Weekly''. He is the co-founder of Breakbeat, a multimedia podcast network launched in September 2021 that is dedicated to serving the interests and perspectives of the hip-hop community across the globe. Mays created ''The Source'' in 1988 as a single-sheet newsletter while a Harvard undergraduate. It soon became a national magazine. While at Harvard, Mays co-hosted a radio show on WHRB, ''Street Beat'', using the name "Go-Go Dave." Mays' co-host was Jon Shecter, "J the Sultan of Rap." Mays made Shecter a partner in ''The Source,'' which provided news and information on hip-hop to listeners of the radio show. After graduation, Mays and Shecter brought ''The Source'' to New York, with classmate Ed Young and Harvard Law School graduate James Bernard as additional partners. David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He is the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and for Love and Rockets. He has composed the scores for a number of plays and films, and also wrote and directed his own plays, ''Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick)'', in 2008, which was restaged at REDCAT in Los Angeles in 2011, and ''The Chanteuse and The Devil's Muse'' in 2011. His artwork has been shown in galleries internationally, and he has been a resident DJ at venues such as the Knitting Factory. David J has released a number of singles and solo albums, and in 1990 he released one of the first No. 1 hits on the then nascent Modern Rock Tracks charts, with "I'll Be Your Chauffeur". David Mays (December 3, 1910 – June 23, 1993) was an American Negro league outfielder in the 1930s. A native of Leggett, Texas, Mays played for the Kansas City Monarchs The Kansas City Monarchs were the longest-running franchise in the history of baseball's Negro leagues. Operating in Kansas City, Missouri, and owned by J. L. Wilkinson, they were charter members of the Negro National League from 1920 to 1 ... in 1937. In 17 recorded games, he posted 14 hits in 61 plate appearances. Mays died in Houston, Texas in 1993 at age 82. Dave Mays
David W. Mays III (born June 20, 1949 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas) is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 1976. He played college football at Texas Southern. Mays also played for the Buffalo Bills. Professional career Mays began his pro football career in 1974 with the World Football League's Houston Texans and Shreveport Steamer before coming to the NFL. He is known for filling in for Brian Sipe, who was knocked out of a game on October 10, 1976 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mays started the season as the third-string quarterback and had never played in the NFL regular season before. He led the Browns to an 18-16 victory. Mays was a Doctor of Dental Surgery, even during his playing days with the Browns. He practiced dentistry for twenty years in Greater Cleveland.
