David Mair (natural Track Luger And Skeleton Racer)
David Mair (born 26 July 1980, in Meran) is an Italian luger and former Skeleton (sport), skeleton racer. He competed until 2002 as a natural track luger, then until 2007 as a skeleton racer and switched back to natural track luge in 2009. Natural track career As a natural track luger, Mair won a bronze medal at the FIL European Luge Natural Track Championships 1999, a gold medal at the FIL World Luge Natural Track Championships 2000 and a silver medal at the FIL World Luge Natural Track Championships 2001 in the Men's doubles with his brother Armin Mair. He also won a gold medal at the FIL World Luge Natural Track Championships 2001 in the mixed team event. After five years as a skeleton racer he gave his comeback as a natural track luger in 2009. Skeleton (sport)
Skeleton is a winter sliding sport in which a person rides a small sled, known as a skeleton bobsled (or -sleigh), down a frozen track while lying face down and head-first. The sport and the sled may have been named from the bony appearance of the sled. Unlike other sliding sports of bobsleigh and luge, the race always involves single riders. Like bobsleigh, but unlike luge, the race begins with a running start from the opening gate at the top of the course. The skeleton sled is thinner and heavier than the luge sled, and skeleton gives the rider more precise control of the sled. Skeleton is the slowest of the three sliding sports, as skeleton's face-down, head-first riding position is less aerodynamic than luge's face-up, feet-first ride. David Mair (artificial Track Luger)
David Mair (born 21 August 1984 in Sterzing) is an Italian artificial track luger who has competed since 2003. Mair's best finish at the FIL European Luge Championships was 12th in the men's singles event at Winterberg in 2006. His best finish at the FIL World Luge Championships was ninth in the men's singles event at Lake Placid, New York in 2009. Mair qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics where he finished 17th.
