David Campos (poet)
David Campos is an American poet, writer, and producer of video poetry from California. His debut collection, ''Furious Dusk'', won the 2014 Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize from Letras Latinas, the literary initiative at the University of Notre Dame's Institute for Latino Studies (ILS). Campos is a CantoMundo fellow. His poems have appeared in '' American Poetry Review'', ''Boxcar Poetry Review'', ''Huizache'', ''Atticus Review'', and ''Verdad'', among others. Career Campos attended Fresno City College, and California State University, Fresno where he earned a BA in English Education and the University of California, Riverside for an MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts. Video Poetry
Video poetry is poetry in video form. It is also known as videopoetry, video-visual poetry, poetronica, poetry video, media poetry, or Cin(E)-Poetry depending on the length and content of the video work and the techniques employed (e.g. digital technology) in its creation. Video poetry is a wide-ranging category where very different typologies of works converge. Some video poetry works use digital elaboration to achieve Digital poetry that is entirely generated by software. When absent of digital effects, video poetry is akin to performance works or a poetry reading recorded in video (digital or analogue) but goes beyond the straightforward act of recording to establish a link with video art. In this sense, video poetry is a particular form of video art comprising poetry texts elaborated at various acoustic and visual levels. Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize
The Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize Competition is a wikt:biennial, biennial program of Letras Latinas in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame Press. Founded in 2004, the Latino poetry competition seeks to publish the first collection of a promising Hispanic and Latino Americans, Latino-United States, American poet who has not previously published a book of poetry. Honoring Andrés Montoya The award is named in honor of Andrés Montoya, a Chicano poet. Montoya passed away from leukemia in 1999 before the publication of his book, ''The Iceworker Sings and Other Poems''. That collection would later go on to win the 1997 University of California, Irvine, UC Irvine Chicano/Latino Literary Prize and the Before Columbus Foundation, before Columbus 2000 American Book Awards, American Book Award. Letras Latinas
Letras Latinas is the literary initiative at the University of Notre Dame's Institute for Latino Studies (ILS), with an office on campus in South Bend, Indiana, as well as Washington, D.C. It was founded in 2004 and strives to enhance the visibility, appreciation and study of Latino literature both on and off the campus of the University of Notre Dame, with an emphasis on programs that support newer voices, foster a sense of community among writers, and place Latino writers in community spaces. Letras Latinas is a founding member of the Poetry Coalition, an alliance of organizations working together to promote the values poets bring to culture and the important contribution poetry makes in the lives of people of all ages backgrounds. CantoMundo
CantoMundo is an American literary organization founded in 2009 to support Latino poets and poetry. It hosts an annual poetry workshop dedicated to the creation, documentation, and critical analysis of Latinx poetry. History CantoMundo was founded in 2009 in San Antonio, Texas when Norma Elia Cantú, Celeste Guzman Mendoza, Pablo Miguel Martínez, Deborah Paredez, and Carmen Tafolla, inspired by the Cave Canem workshops for African-American poets, organized a workshop for Latino writers. The first workshop was held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2010. From 2011 to 2016 the workshops were held at the University of Texas, Austin. ''The American Poetry Review'' (''APR'') is an American poetry magazine printed every other month on tabloid-sized newsprint. It was founded in 1972 by Stephen Berg and Stephen Parker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The magazine's editor is Elizabeth Scanlon. History ''The American Poetry Review'' was founded by Berg and Parker in 1972 in Philadelphia. The magazine lacked capital but had "significant support in the national poetry community" according to the magazine's website. In 1973 David Bonanno, a recent graduate of Wesleyan University, joined ''APR'' and served as editor of the publication until his death in 2017. College of the Sequoias (COS) is a public two-year community college in Visalia, California. The college is named for the Giant Sequoia trees native to the nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range. History College of the Sequoias was originally established in 1926 as Visalia Junior College as a department in the city high school.
