David Montague Davis
David Montague Davis (c.1853 – 30 November 1932), was a British choirmaster and music teacher. David Montague Davis was born in London in c. 1853, and privately educated there. Davis started as choirmaster of the East London Synagogue in 1877, and the following year he was appointed musical director, choirmaster and organist of the New West End Synagogue, a year before it opened its doors in 1879, and remained its choirmaster for 51 years. He edited The Voice Of Prayer And Praise (1899), together with Rabbi Francis Lyon Cohen, known as the ''Blue Book'', as that was the colour of its original cover. Davis founded the Hebrew Choral Association, and in 1900, was appointed director of the Gunnersbury School of Music, and in 1906 he became conductor of the Chiswick and Gunnersbury Philharmonic Society. David Davis (Australian Politician)
David McLean Davis (born 8 April 1962) is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Council since March 1996, representing East Yarra Province from 1996 until 2006 when it was abolished and the Southern Metropolitan Region from 2006 onwards. He was state Minister for Health from 2010 to 2014 under Premiers Ted Baillieu and Denis Napthine. Early career Davis was born in Millicent, South Australia and studied in Melbourne, Victoria. He was educated at Kingswood College (Box Hill). He studied applied science at the Phillip Institute of Technology (now part of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology). David Brion Davis (February 16, 1927 РApril 14, 2019) was an American intellectual and cultural historian, and a leading authority on slavery and abolition in the Western world. He was a Sterling Professor of History at Yale University, and founder and director of Yale's Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition. He was a self-described "leftish Democrat." Davis authored or edited 17 books. His books emphasize religious and ideological links among material conditions, political interests, and new political values. Ideology, in his view, is not a deliberate distortion of reality or a fa̤ade for material interests; rather, it is the conceptual lens through which groups of people perceive the world around them. David Davis, Maesyffynnon, (1821–1884), son of David Davis, Blaengwawr was a prominent Welsh coal owner and public figure. He built upon the work of his father and expanded the family's industrial holdings in the Aberdare and Rhondda valleys. He had two daughters, Mary and Catherine. Mary married H.T. Edwards, vicar of Aberdare and later Dean of St Asaph and Catherine married Sir Francis Edwards. Career in industry The family business, built up by his father, was based on the Aberdare Valley, and a number of collieries were opened south of Aberdare, such as that at Abercwmboi. During his father's last years, the family became involved in the early exploitation of the coal reserves of the neighbouring Rhondda Valleys, with the Davis family's operations being concentrated on Ferndale in the Rhondda Fach. David Davis, Blaengwawr (1797 – 19 May 1866), was a leading figure in the South Wales coal industry and a founder of the steam coal trade. David Davis was born in Llanddeusant, Carmarthenshire, in 1797. At a young age, he went to Merthyr Tydfil, where he served an apprenticeship with a relative before opening his own business at Hirwaun. The business was successful and he soon became involved in small scale mining at Rhigos. This colliery (with its wharf at Briton Ferry near Neath) was sold in 1847, but by that time Davis had taken a lease of valuable steam-coal seams on the Blaengwawr estate at Aberaman. He sank a pit therein 1843, and transported the coal to Cardiff on the Glamorganshire Canal until the Taff Vale Railway was opened in 1847. David Daniel Davis M.D. F.R.C.P. (15 June 1777 – 4 December 1841) was a British physician. Born David Davies in Llandyfaelog in Wales, he received his M.D. from the University of Glasgow in 1801. He set up his practice as a physician in Sheffield, living in Paradise Square from 1803 to 1812. In 1806 he translated Philippe Pinel's influential book ''Traité médico-philosophique sur l'aleniation mentale; ou la manie'' with the English title ''Treatise on Insanity''. He then settled in London, and in 1813 was elected to the office of physician accoucher at the Queen Charlotte Lying-in Hospital. In this role, he was in attendance to the Duchess of Kent when she gave birth to the future Queen Victoria in 1819. David Lowell Davis (born 20 February 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Kidderminster Harriers. Having trained with Walsall's Centre of Excellence as a boy, and then played local football for Tividale, Davis began a scholarship in Wolverhampton Wanderers' youth academy in 2007. He turned professional in 2009, and made his senior debut the same year while on loan to Darlington of League Two.
