Daughters Of Destiny (film)
''Daughters of Destiny'' (UK title: ''Love, Soldiers and Women'', French title: ''Destinées'' and Italian title: ''Destini di donne'') is a 1954 Franco-Italian co-production motion picture comedy drama directed by Marcello Pagliero, Jean Delannoy and Christian-Jaque. The film stars Claudette Colbert (segment "Elisabeth"), Michèle Morgan (segment "Jeanne") and Martine Carol (segment "Lysistrata"). It tells three stories, which are unrelated, but each deal with a woman and war. Plot In this trilogy of stories, the episode "Elizabeth" is about an American war-widow who goes to Italy where her husband was in World War II. The episode "Jeanne" tells the life of Jeanne d'Arc. The episode "Lysistrata" is about Athenian wives, an adaptation of the Greek play. Marcello Pagliero
Marcello Pagliero (15 January 1907 – 18 October 1980) was an Italian film director, actor, and screenwriter. Pagliero was born in London and died in Paris. He is perhaps best known for his performance in the Roberto Rossellini film '' Rome, Open City'' (1945). He moved to France in 1947, and continued to work in film until 1960 and in French television after that. In 1949, he was nominated with six other co-writers for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the Rossellini film '' Paisan''. Roman Vlad
Roman Vlad (29 December 1919 – 21 September 2013) was a Romanian-born Italian composer, pianist, and musicologist. Biography Born in Cernăuți, Bukovina (now Chernivtsi, Ukraine), he studied with Titus Tarnawski and Liviu Russu in Romania earning a piano diploma. He moved to Rome in 1938 to study at the University of Rome and later the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He eventually became an Italian citizen in 1951. Vlad's early career was as a performer and composer; he won the Enescu Prize in 1942 for his Sinfonietta, and the Silver Ribbon Award for his film music. Paolo Stoppa Knight Grand Cross (6 June 1906 – 1 May 1988) was an Italian actor. Biography Born in Rome, he began as a stage actor in 1927 in the theater in Rome and began acting in films in 1932. Katherine Kath (born Rose Marie Lily Faess; 11 August 1920 – 17 November 2012) was a French prima ballerina at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, who became an actress after suffering from an injury which destroyed her chances of continuing her career. Kath was born in Berck, Pas-de-Calais, France, where she also died, at age 92 in 2012, from undisclosed causes. Until shortly before then, she was living in London, near Fulham Road. Mirko Ellis
Mirko Ellis (4 September 1923 – 11 September 2014) was a Swiss-Italian film, stage and television actor. Born Mirko Korcinsky in Locarno to a family of Lithuanian origin, Ellis moved, after his studies, to Italy, where he made his film debut in 1946, in a critically acclaimed role in Aldo Vergano's neorealist drama '' The Sun Still Rises''. One year later, he debuted on stage in the theatrical company of Maria Melato. He later alternated important roles and character roles, in genre films and television productions.
