Daraa Offensive (March–April 2016)
The Daraa offensive (March–April 2016) was a military operation of two groups allegedly affiliated with the Islamic State, the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade and the Islamic Muthanna Movement, against Syrian opposition forces in the Daraa Governorate. Background The Muthanna Islamic Movement was accused of kidnappings of Daraa officials and FSA commanders, which the Movement denied. Several of the prisoners were freed by the Yarmouk Army later. Muthanna was also alleged to have cooperated with the Islamic State. In midst of the Second Battle of Al-Shaykh Maskin on 23 January 2016, against the Syrian Armed Forces, conflict erupted between the Muthanna Movement and the Yarmouk Army after the Movement blocked the road leading to the town. The Daraa Governorate campaign was a military campaign in the Syrian Civil War for the control of the southern Syrian Daraa Governorate (province) between the Syrian Armed Forces and the Syrian opposition, which ended with the capture of the province by the Southern Operations Room. The Army of the Revolution (; ''Jaysh al-Thawrā'') was a Syrian rebel alliance affiliated with the Southern Front of the Free Syrian Army. It was composed of five FSA factions which mainly operated in the Daraa Governorate in southwestern Syria.
