Danube Bridge
The Danube Bridge (also known as the Friendship Bridge; , ''Most na druzhbata'' or, more commonly, , ''Dunav most''; or ''Podul de la Giurgiu'') is a steel truss bridge over the Danube River connecting the Bulgarian bank to the south with the Romanian bank to the north and the cities of Ruse, Bulgaria, Ruse and Giurgiu respectively. It is one of only two bridges connecting Romania and Bulgaria, the other one being the New Europe Bridge between the cities of Vidin and Calafat. History Opened on 20 June 1954 and designed by Soviet engineers V. Andreev and N. Rudomazin, the bridge is long and was, at the time, the only bridge over the Danube shared by Bulgaria and Romania, with other traffic being served by ferry, ferries and land routes. Decorations were designed by Bulgarian architect Georgi Ovcharov. The bridge has two decks; a two lane motorway and a railway. Sidewalks for pedestrians are also included. Donaukanal
The Donaukanal (, ''Danube Canal'') is a former arm of the river Danube, now regulated as a water channel (since 1598), within the city of Vienna, Austria. Donauinsel
The Donauinsel (Danube Island) is a long, narrow artificial island in central Vienna, Austria, lying between the Danube and the New Danube. The island is in length, but is only wide. It was constructed from 1972 to 1988 primarily as a measure for flood protection. It has since become the most popular recreational area in the city. Recreation The Donauinsel is a popular recreational area for the Viennese population. In addition to beaches and sunbathing areas by the New Danube, there are also multiple barbecue areas, as well as various other free facilities, including a water playground, volleyball and other sports fields, skateparks and dog parks. Danube Legion
The Danube Legion (; ) was a Polish Legion of the French Revolutionary Army which existed from 1799 to 1803. It was renamed as the 3rd Polish Half-Brigade in December 1801 and the 113th Line Infantry Half-Brigade on September 1802, before being amalgamated with the 114th Line Infantry Half-Brigade in 1803. Creation The Danube Legion was raised on 8 September 1799 in the Batavian Republic by Brigadier-General Karol Kniaziewicz. One of the French Revolutionary Army's Polish Legions, its ranks consisted of Polish volunteers and Austrian Army prisoners of war who were ethnic Poles. At its establishment, the unit consisted of four infantry battalions with a theoretical strength of 1,230 men each, an uhlan regiment theoretically 928 men strong and a field artillery company.
